Clear liquids and calories

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I am one week post op today and am entering my second week of Clear liquids including Protein Shakes made with Water. I'm finding like many I have seen on here that it can be tough to get down all of your Protein and liquids when your sleeve doesn't love anything in it, but what I am struggling with is feeling like I'm just not getting enough calories in to do much activity. I've been managing around 2-3 protein supplements a day in addition to lots of sugar free liquids and broth, but that really amounts to under 300 calories a day. I felt better each day after surgery, but starting yesterday I've been feeling really weak and woozy to the point that walking downstairs exhausts me.

I'm just getting worried that after two weeks of such a low calorie diet my body might not be in such great shape. Does anyone else have this concern? I don't feel hungry, but I definitely feel very sickly and like I might faint from time to time. I am following my doctors plan, but I just wanted to hear from people with other experiences to gauge if this is all part of the process.

I felt like that, too. My doctor actually advised against sugar free liquids during that time because he said I'd feel better with my body getting energy from the sugar. I still don't think I went over 600-700 calories a day, but it did make me feel a bit less run down. (I'm 3 weeks out and down 16 pounds, so I don't think it hurt my weight loss any.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
