Hi all! Today is day 5 of my 3 week pre-op. Is there any existing support group near Abbotsford or interested folks to start one?

All the best to you.

Hi! I'm in Delta, but I'd be totally happy to drive out your way. Did either of you guys find a group? If not, did you just want to meet the three of us for coffee or something? I'd love to chat to other people who have been through WLS... I got banded on Sept 3rd.

Looks like there is interest in a meet-up. Would an evening work during the week or would a weekend be better?

A nice middle mark would be good - maybe Langley somewhere?

Let's start with those questions first and hopefully we can come up with our first support meeting soon!

:o)

I'm happy to meet in Langley! How about a Starbucks near the freeway? Maybe the one at 200th St & 86th Ave D/T-Langley? Evenings are better for me, I could be there any evening by about 7:30pm. Even if it's just 2 of us to start, I'm excited to meet someone else going through this :)

Still at beginning process. Had phone consult and am awaiting in person consult with Dr Katherine Hsu at False Creek Lap Band clinic.

I'm Ready........I see you had your surgery with her. What was your experience? How long was it from the consult time to surgery date (I am private pay). Thanks!

Hi nurse mom! My consult was Aug 20 and my surgery date was Sept 3, so not long at all. I have had two fills now (I got one at false creek just this morning!) and I'm loving my lap band! In August I started this journey at 272.2lbs and I'm now at 229lbs. It's still hard work losing the weight, but the band is the tool I need to keep me on track the days I can't do it through willpower :). If you ever wanted to meet up and discuss, I'm around! I live in north delta :)

Just had my second fill at the False Creek clinic this week and Sue from Mississauga was there for the day. They will be starting a support group in the new year to be held there in False Creek for anyone who can travel in. I certainly don't mind once in a while but would like to proceed with something here in the FV as well. Soooooo I know everyone will have Christmas busyness to deal with so how about Monday, Dec 29 at 7:30 at the Starbucks in Langley that was mentioned in an earlier post? I think it's on 200th.

It might be a way for us to say goodbye to 2014 and look forward to the new year with added support and friends!

Hope to see you there! I'm Joyce and will try to remember to wear my teal coloured wrap so you can find me.

Merry Christmas all!

I realize I'm late to this thread, but I'm in downtown Van and would be up for a meetup.

Sure! I'd like to meetup, I'm in North delta, but I work in Burnaby part time. Want to get a coffee one evening? Or after work on a Thursday? I can come downtown, or meet in east van?

That would be great. I can meet wherever. I try to get out of that downtown bubble! When is a good date? My main occupation is a housewife, so my schedule is very flexible.

That's my main occupation too! How about May 12, 7:30pm at the JJ Bean at Main and 14th? My email is mskatewatson@gmail.com, might be easier than posting on the board?

Just wondering if you ladies were able to meet up in May? I had surgery in January 2014 and have been looking for some sort of support in the lower mainland as well. I think it would be easier to talk to someone who has been through the same thing as me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
