How did you survive the all liquid diet for the first 2 weeks?

Recommended Posts

Water, Powerade, broth, and Protein Shakes.

Honestly, I had no desire to eat solid foods. Even when my Dr told me to start eating, I wasn't ready.

I'm not as worried about the post-op liquid diet as I am about my two week pre-op liquid diet that starts Sunday. I still have 100% of my stomach and I have to go to work every day!

When did you start the Protein Shakes?

My diet was Clear Liquids for week 1

And add Protein shakes week 2

Soft foods week 3

Slowly introduce solids week 4

Sounds logical to me, Jamie!

Actually my post op liquid stage was almost 3 weeks. I went for variety... I made dozens of different flavored Protein shakes. I probably never had the same one more than 2-3 times the whole time. I also added unflavored Protein powder to broth and diluted/strained cream Soups (chicken, beef, tortilla Soup base, hot and sour Soup base, lobster bisque, butternut squash soup, leek soup, cream of chicken, mushroom, asparagus, spinach, shrimp)

Just keep your eye on the big goal and don't focus on those short two weeks. It's seriously insignificant compared to the rest of your life.

The pre op diet is the hardest part of the whole process. You are exactly right - your stomach isn't smaller, you still have an appetite, you are still "normal." I don't have any advice except it sucks! :( I spent a lot of time in bed because I couldn't sit in the living room or in front of the tv. Every commercial is about food - don't watch tv! lol

Just remember that there is a reason you are doing it. You WILL eat again. I actually started making mental lists of what foods I wanted to eat for "when I could again." It helped a little (not really!)

Good luck! We all went through it and feel your pain!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
