I was just wondering what everyone has lost and in what amount of time?

I have been reading on the computer and some other sights and I see that those who have the GBS lose sooo much more weight so much more quickly! And a few places say that you only lose 50-60% of your ideal body weight. :phanvan I would like to know what other thoughts on this!

I am going to have the surgery either way.... I am just wondering if this is just people trying for you to go the other way or how much truth is in that!!

I want to lose the weight and with my surgery being 5 weeks away I am kinda getting disheartened to see the light at the end of the tunnel.:)

The way that people lose weight is a pretty personal thing. Some people are just slow losers, and no matter how hard they try they lose slowly, others are born losers, and it seems they can lose weight by thinking about it. There are so many other people in between. It is also a matter of how hard people want to work at it.

In regards to the by-pass surgeries vs. the band, there are longterm studies coming out now that indicate after 5 years, both are almost identical in terms of % of weight lost.

By-pass patients do lose plenty of weight initially, but they also have alot of cases of them putting it back on. Banders on the other hand tend to lose slower, but do not have as many complications.

It is also important to note that the 50-60% of excess weight is an average. That average include those people who have lost 100% or more of thier excess weight and those who were unsuccessful for whatever reason and lost 0%. If you are committed you should be able to lose more than the 50-60%, Even then 50-60% of excess weight is still a great accomplishment.

YUP...what Andrew said. Gastric By-pass folks lose much faster (initially) and lose a LOT upfront. But as a result of that (& the nature of their surgical procedure) they have many more complications (some quite serious) and there is a much greater chance that they put the weight back on. With lapband, the is a MUCH lesser chance of putting the weight back on..and yes....it does take longer (in most cases) to lose the weight (But this is a good thing). Slow but sure wins the race.

And, most importantly, as Andrew already pointed out....all the studies out there show that after 5 yrs, lapband patients lose the same amount of weight as bypassers.

Just don't compare yourself to anyone (whether a fellow bandster or a by-pass patient)....you can't compare yourself to anyone else in terms of speed of loss....there are way too many variables and each individual is different...not only in the way they are physically "wired" but other variables as well that affect weight loss.

But, obviously the band works!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
