How long after surgery until you got blood work done?

Recommended Posts

Standard for my clinic is full blood a 6 months. I ended up have gout as a side effect and had some of my blood work done at a month out. The pre diabetis was gone along with needing blood pressure meds. I am curious about Vitamin levels. The more people I talk with it seems with the band if you eat a balanced diet full blown Vitamins are not required. I plan to post the findings when I hit 6 months.

Mine was 3mos, 6mos, 12mos. They checked for everything, including Vitamin deficiencies and cholesterol. I go again at 18 months just because I tend to be D-deficient.

I usually have some overlapping testing done because of other routine Dr visits. Today I'm going for more blood work for my endocrinologist (thyroid function and cholesterol). I have a yearly physical w/my PCP in October and am hoping he won't want more labs done, since he receives copies of all my test results. :-)

3 months, 6 months 1 year, and every year after that. Not sure what "panel" they call it but they check Proteins, hydration, albumin, cholesterol, minerals like B12, D3, Iron, Calcium, etc.

I just found out our dr does bw at 6 mos. I feel like it should be done earlier. He said it's because everything needs to get evened out after surgery and sooner than that is not accurate.

I'm diabetic so I had bloodwork done in June. Surgery was in May. I'll have it done again in September. My NP does a standard panel and checks my HgA1C and my Vitamin D levels since i always seem to be deficient. Hopefully next time I get drawn my Vitamin D levels will be higher.

Three months for me, except for my B12, it's getting checked next week. I am severely depressed and my shrink wants my B12 checked because B12 deficiency can lead to depression. I'm already severe bipolar 1, don't need to add depression on top of my mania. My psychiatrist switched me from an antidepressant to Prozac. Prozac last longer in the system then the antidepressant I was on.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
