How Many Calories A Day??

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have a question. Has anyone been told by there doctor how many calories you should be getting a day? I've heard some people say 600-800. Which dosent seems like not much, especially if you havent hit your "sweet spot." Or is that for bandsters that were at a good fill level. What about us that are'nt so lucky yet? Do we just go by a standard amount? Also if you are only getting 600-800 calories a day how can you get all the Protein you need? My doctor wants me to have at least 60g of protein and 25g of Fiber a day.

I stick to about 600 although my doc wants me to go for 800. I can get 66gms of protein with 360 calories. Fiber, I have never managed fiber. A good rule of them is 4gms of fiber per 100 calories. I haven't managed that yet although others have.

Lower calories come with restriction and better food choices.

I was in for a fill last week, and the nurse there told me to aim around 1,100 calories. Seems like a good amount to me, making good choices I can get in my protein and other good for me stuff.

Well heres a typical day for me:

Breakfast= 2 eggs=14g of Protein

Lunch= Healthy choice=10g of protein

Dinner= chicken and a veggie= not sure how much Protein is in chicken

Avg's out to about 1000 calories a day

Bubble did you use to be hungry during the day before you had surgery?

I was never hungry before surgery. I ate before I ever experienced that sensation. :)

So you did use to eat Breakfast and lunch before surgery but you dont now? So the band is working if your not hungry most of the day right? I was just asking because you had mentioned earlier that you had'nt hit your sweet spot yet.

I'm at my sweet spot, or very close... I'm actually considering a very small defill (1/4 cc). I'm eating 600-700 cals. per day, and that's all I can get down.

I think its an individual thing, when you eat what's right with you, you'll lose. There's no point arguing about "starvation mode" if you just plain dont lose weight until you drop below 1000.

For me, I can eat 1500 or even more and still lose weight so I do. The more you can eat the better.

I know if I add up the foods I know I really need in a day - two fruits, five different vegetables, a serve or two of Protein foods and enough carb/fibre foods to keep me regular I'm up at 1200 to 1500. So that's what I usually do and lucky me, I often have enough leeway for a treat like a glass of wine as well.

Sometimes I would eat breakfast, sometimes not. I always ate lunch.< /p>

Personally I think it is the Protein doing it for me. I drink a shake in the am and noon, it's liquid. It goes right through my band. I eat NO carbs until evening and then I limit them. Otherwise in an hour I am really hungry.

It also depends on your BMI... The higher your BMI the more calories you can consume and safely lose weight. When I get weighed at the clinic the scale does a printout that says how many calories I can consume to MAINTAIN my current weight, which of course is not my goal. The nurse then recommends reducing that by at least 200-400. So, if my maintenance calories are 1467 I need to eat less than 1200 to lose. I try to eat 800 cals. per day. It's not easy and I may need a small defill.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
