Omega loop (mini gastric bypass) in october!

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I'm booked in on October 15th for a revision to an Omega loop in South Australia.

Sadly its actually it's a revision of a revision :/ and I feel like a big fat failure.

I had a lapband in 2007 (initially lost 35 kilos of the 50 i needed to lose) but developed very unhealthy habits). the band caused me no end of trouble with constant fills and unfills to manage severe (choking in the night) reflux and ended up gaining back nearly 30 of those. I had it removed in 2012 and had to wait 6 months for my revision to a sleeve because the band had done so much damage to my stomach.

Because of that damage, my wonderful sleeve surgeon did his best but was unable to make a small, neat sleeve. I only managed to lose 13 kilos in the first few months after that surgery (and no longer have reflux which is great). For the last 6 months I've been back to the old days of panic-dieting... moving from one fad diet to another just to try and not gain. It makes me sad because I really thought that with the sleeve my days of that would finally be over.

So I head towards my October surgery with cautious optimism...My surgeon thinks I'm a good candidate for the OL and that they are seeing a few people in a similar situation to me.

I'd love to meet others who have had the omega loop or are going to :)

Hello, As of my 3 month anniversary, I have dropped 49 lbs. I am not watching my diet and drinking alcohol due to the holidays this past month, but I have been spending 2 hours at the gym 5x week and did put on muscle weight too. I believe I can lose more by watching my intake, but I just wish to lose another 40-50lbs and hopefully will be there soon.

Are you drinking alcohol? I was understanding that we could not drink any alcohol for at least 6 to 9 months. What does your doctor say?

Yes I have been drinking alcohol after one month. The doctor said it's fine but it will slow down the weight loss. Usually 2 drinks but I have been at many social events the past 6 weeks and do see a slow weight loss and increase in drinking ability, so I have given up now for at least the next 4-8 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
