I am so stressed and frustrated about this band and with my doctor. I use Nicholson clinic in Dallas if anyone has any comments about that. I am 12 weeks post op, and have really had a rough time. at about 4 weeks I started having chest pain and throwing up. went to dr. after a run around all day from my dr. I was told to go to ER, they did CT of Chest and Abdomen. and then the next day had endoscopy. They said all was well. then had some other medical issues.... so after a couple of weeks all was well.

then 2 weeks ago I started throwing up even Water, so went to Dr. they did an UGI, said I was just swollen and irritated and to do liquids for a few days and then slowly up to food. followed those instructions and all has been great .

so I went today for a fill-- finally my first one.

this is the part that I am so frustrated with my Dr. that I could just scream. I have to drive 3 hours to dr. and I get there and a PA is getting ready to do my fill and he goes to look at the upper GI results before he does the fill and he comes back to the room and says he can't do it. he is reading the results to me and it says the band should be at 1'oclock and it was at 3'oclock and he didn't feel comfortable about doing a fill, I would have to see the Dr first. so I say ok lets do it, WELL there was not a DOCTOR in the building. so started asking questions like what did that mean, like could it be fixed without surgery,... he didn't know. I asked would it hurt me to leave it like it is for a while..... he didn't know. so basically I drove 3 hours for nothing. and I asked him to call one of the doctors on the phone and he said he couldn't do it . that they were unavailable.

I think I need to change doctors but I am already in debt up to my ass with him. and now I'm worried about if this is dangerous since it has slipped.

thanks for letting me get this off my chest and if anyone has any advise or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a picture of a fluoroscopic fill. If you look hard you can see the band is at about 1 o'clock. 3 o'clock would mean the band has slipped on the upper part of the stomach. I'm no doctor so take what I'm posting with many grains of salt.

Vomiting so soon after surgery is not good. You may need to get an attorney? Tell your doctor to make this right or you will?

Sorry to hear you're having doctor problems. Monday call the doctor and tell him that if you don't get results ASAP you will report him to the state board of doctors. I have never had anyone other than my doctor do any fills.

Good luck.

Arlene

The PA showed me the pictures. the sad thing is after the UGI the doctor said it was just a little swollen and all would be fine. he told me to come back in a couple weeks for a fill... so that is why I made the appt. I didn't find all this out until I was there today. that is really what made me so mad. and now I have used all my sick time taking days off to go there and still nothing has been resolved. I am so worried that there will be a problem if something is not done to fix the slipped band.

I'm curious to know if anyone else used Nicholas Clinic and what they think of them. thanks for listening to a mad woman ramble on !!!

I am so sorry to hear what your going through for sure. While all this is spinning around and you are trying to figure this out I suggest getting an appointment with another surgeon. Possibly another county or whatever because you need another opinion.

if they didn't give you any directions, I will. my band slipped too. not as bad as yours has. i'm more of a 2:00 slip. this is what I've had to do. my band was completely unfilled. and I was at green zone. liquids for 2 weeks and soft for 2 weeks and next week I will be starting solids but I have to split my meals into 5 small meals. the idea behind this is to let everything relax and hopefully your band goes back into place. I also had chest pain so bad I was taking nitro. after many heart tests it was determined that my heart was fine but with the barium swallow it showed over 20 spasms in my esophagus and at the time of the swallow I wasn't having any pain at all so I've been wondering what my esophagus was doing when I had the severe chest pain. my esophagus also elongated. so this is serious. you need to treat this very seriously. and I would look for a clinic that is more concerned. you should always have a way to get in touch with your doctor. but in the meantime go on liquids. be strict with yourself. I am really sorry you have had such a hard time. the vomiting and pain was a sure sign you had slipped. I bet if they went back to that first endoscopy it will show signs of slippage. my suggestion to you is on Monday morning you are going to call the doctor office and speak to the doctor. if the girl answering the phone doesn't put you through get very assertive. what has happened to you needs a conversation with the doctor. and you shouldn't have to drive 3 hours to just discuss something. please start liquids, sip and don't gulp. take care of yourself

I was going to say the same thing about being able to get a hold of your Surgeon at any time , this should be required for all Lap band surgeons & for them to let us know what hospitals close to us that we can go to that they are affiliated with , it is not right that the PA could not call the Doctor, just my opinion I bet if it was them they could get a hold of the Doctor , this made me upset , I hope it works out for you & it's not bad or hopefully it's nothing but this is no good .

thanks everyone for your comments. I am going to call the doctor first thing in the morning. the odd thing is that after I had the UGI and did liquids for a few days and then moved to mushy foods, etc, I have had no problems eating. actually it is like there is not even a band there. that's why I went for a fill, because I can eat with no full feeling or anything.

I just can't get over that there is no access to a doctor when you have an appt. and if the PA doesn't know enough to handle any situations with the band, then he shouldn't be left unattended. I think I am just ready to have the thing taken out.

we have a vacation planned starting tomorrow, going to the beach at surfside for a few days, so I guess if the doctor can't discuss it with me on the phone. I will have to wait a while before I can make an appt. I just hope I am not causing damage by eating. the PA couldn't even answer my questions about what I should eat or if this could cause damage. anyway thanks for listening and I will post after I speak with the doctor.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
