Problem with vomiting and nausea...2 days post-op

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 8/6 and have not been able to drink anything. Every time I try, it comes right back up. I can't even imagine having a Protein Shake. Even Water won't stay down. How long did it take you after surgery to be able to keep food down?

very common and it is because of what happened to you. This is a huge deal. You are swollen and sore and all the stuff they used to do the surgery. Pain meds. None of this is easy...It will pass. Ask your surgeon if you can take Gravol for the nausea.

I don't know how it will last. Each person is different. I still throw up on occasion. Most find that it eases up after a month or so....Just don't force it by pushing it upwards. We think we need to get it all out. That is nature when we are sick. But we are not sick as in the Flu. Let it happen and then go on.....

Keep us posted okay. And if it does continue please talk to your surgeon. Oh and try to drink some coconut Water or G2 Gatorade it will help with Hydration..... :)

I was sleeved on 8/4 and felt great in the hospital. On 8/5 I was discharged and before I left the hospital I got liquids down but since I've been home it's been hard. Today is 4 days later and I finally had a little bowel movement but feel so neasous. Since I've been home each day I've taken 2-3 sips of Protein. It's been mostly Water and Ice chips which I don't think is enough. Also still having gas pains.

I couldn't keep fluids down for five days. I had a second procedure after my sleeve to clear out scar tissue from my esophagas caused by acid reflux and fix a tiny hernia. The scar tissue and surgery trauma was causing me a lot of swelling, which meant nothing could pass through even Fluid. The problem for me was the PPI (antacid). i had my surgery in Mexico, there they give you a small capsule filled with granules with instructions to add them to a drink, but they don't dissolve. When those granules hit my stomach, they would come right back up. I had nausea for all five days too. The surgeon finally had me take a liquid antacid (Ryopan, but Galviscon worked once I got home) and then I could finally keep fluids down. I know how you feel - I was terrified and having serious buyers remorse, like what have I done to myself? I can't even drink! I had surgery Monday and finally kept Fluid down starting Saturday morning. The best dilluted apple juice I'd had in my entire life :)

Hang in there, it gets better I promise.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
