Lauren - Which surgery did you have? What do you eat in a normal day? If you'd supply some information I'm sure there are many others besides myself who can give you suggestions and help. Don't give up - The best thing you did today was reach out here. Hang tight.

(You can email me at tlloyd851@yahoo.com for support if you like. I had RNY and have had great success)

I would suggest getting out the eating guide that you were hopefully given when you had surgery and start really paying attention. Eating the amounts suggested, food types, make sure you are getting your Water and Protein etc... ALSO call the nutritionalist at the surgeon's office and either make an appointment or talk to him/her on the phone. As you know its a hard journey but we all must be honest with ourselves about what we are putting into our bodies and how much exercise we are getting. I truly wish you the best!!

Are you able to do any exercise to boost your weight loss?

I had the sleeve. I don't really no what to eat. I eat the usual stuff but no junk food or sugary foods.

It scares be to hear you say you don't know what to eat. There are many websites (and your nut) that can help you figure out foods that are good for you and things you need to stay away from. Many foods that you think are good for you really aren't. Too many carbs can sideline you and they stay with you for days which can really sabotage you and you won't even know it. Not enough Protein can lead you to want to eat more often. I've noticed that I need to also try to balance meals. Do you keep a journal of your food intake? It was really helpful to me, I still keep track using my Fitbit. It helps me track exercise, food intake, calories burned and bunches of other things. It keeps me honest and helps me to see when I'm doing good and when I'm doing bad. If I notice a stall, I can go back and see what I've been doing and usually without fail I'll see a pattern of eating too little, not moving enough or lack of sleep. It's very important to journal and/or track. (Also, if you don't eat enough calories your body will quit burning them and you'll stop loosing).

Wow Sugarfreeme. That really helps. Can you tell me what Fitbit is?

Fitbit is a pedometer that you wear on your wrist. It syncs with my phone and computer so I can review everything there and also sends me a weekly report. It costs about $ 100.00 but it's so worth it. You can tell it when your going to bed, it tracks the hours you sleep and even tells you how many times you were restless during the night. Its amazing because when I feel tired during the day, I can check and sure enough I either didn't get enough sleep or I was restless 8 - 10 times during the night. (note, they have different types of fitbits, some less expensive then the one I have)

@@laurenw46, don't be discouraged the weight they you have lost so far is still a great milestone and you should be proud of yourself, keep working out and figure what foods work for you and you will continue to shed those pounds

If you don't have a food scale, invest in one. They are like, $20 on Amazon.com. At home I weigh and measure my foods. At work I eat a lean cuisine or other frozen meal just for convenience. I use myfitnesspal.com (or the app on my phone) to log every scrap I put in my mouth - good bad or ugly. You might want to try to go back to basics. Eating your food with a baby fork off of a wee tiny plate. But for me, weighing and measuring really helps me not overeat. Lord knows my head still wants to eat all of the food.

Edited for punctuation issues.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
