I have always been afraid of the scale so I don't own one, but since I have decided to have gastric bypass is it a good idea to buy one? ( still in the beginning process) should I buy one now or wait till I get near the end of my process?

I also didn't own a scale. I think I saw it as a reminder of my failure. But once I made the decision to have WLS I bought one and have used it in preparation for my surgery. My surgery will be the end of October and I am using the scale as another tool. I have also taken a before picture and my measurements as others have recommended. Every now and then I become obsessed with the scale and I have to stay away from it.

It was for me, it's another tool.

I'm going to buy one right around the time I have my surgery in late October, It will definitely be a nice tool to have after the surgery to track my progress. :)

I've had a scale for a long time. Mine even talks to me. Lol. It greets me with a 'hello, I'm ready'. I always smile because I am usually thinking, 'that makes one of us!'

It's a high capacity scale, because I started out at 480.6. At one time I was at 494 and about sat in the floor and cried. But today I am hovering around 435 with my surgery scheduled for Friday of this week.

I think seeing the numbers go down, for me, is exciting. And yes, you can get scale-crazy, but you have to remember it is a tool, just like the surgery.

I use a scale (i'm pre-op) but try to keep it to once a week. I also do measurements for those times you hit a plateau ... you can still see that you're getting smaller!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
