Hey guys,

I'm a newbie, and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Ashley, I'm 22 (almost 23), from Oklahoma.

I just had my first appointment with Dr. Luis Gorospe @ the Southcrest Center for Surgical Weight Loss in Tulsa, OK.

They are currently submitting a letter to my Insurance Company (First Health) to make certain they won't pay for any part of my surgery. I anticipate they won't, because I currently am not dealing with any contributing health problems. Not a diabetic, no cholestoral problems, or blood pressure. But I am prepared to pay for the surgery myself.

Once we find out what insurance will cover (or won't) then we'll be able to proceede with scheduling.

I'm excited, and nervous all at the same time. I have battled a weight problem since I was 6 years old, and I can't imagine what it would be like to be even remotely close to slim.

I'm excited to be here, and look forward to sharing my experience with you guys, and your experiences with me. And hopefully put myself at ease with this frightening journey I'm embarking on.

~*Ash*~

Hi Ashley!

I hope your insurance approves the surgery. I also did not have any health problems. Only a thyroid issue but it's not active or anything .. I was afraid I would not get approved.. However they DID approve me! Good thing they did because I did not have the money.

I've battled weight loss my entire life too...I have never been happier or had more energy in my life and I've only lost about 40lbs!

Good luck and keep us posted : )

Hi Ashley!!!

I'm so excited for you. Like you my insurance didn't pay for my surgery but I knew that I needed the surgery bad enough so that I could live a longer and healthier life. I'm from Tx and am 27. My name is Chrissie. Having the lap band surgery on March 12, 2007 was the best choice I have ever made. So far I've lost 34 pounds. Like you, I had been battling my weight since I was about 10 years old. If you ever need support or just have a few questions, please don't hesitate to ask any of us. Everyone on this board is trully inspirational! Get ready to be a hottie!:clap2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
