Post Surgery Nausea Help

Recommended Posts

What do you use to alleviate your nausea? Has anyone ever used an accupressure band around the wrist (i.e., BioBand, etc.) or a patch for the post-surgery nausea? I would like to be proactive on this and not wait until it hits me to do something. I'd like to have some things on hand.....

Now THAT'S proactive! I can take all the post-surgical pain in the world but nausea is a MAJOR BUMMER.

I would call your doctor. My surgery isn't until May 7th, and I've already got my prescription for phengren. I'm sure he could call something into the pharmacy for you.

Kacee,

I'm the worst at nausea. I have never had a surgery where I did not wake up losing everthing for hours. I had the patch behind the ear preop and the nurses used many anti nausea meds but the only one that worked was phenegran. Don't mess with anything else tell them to have it standing by because if your like me , you'll need it. The only thing it knocks you out, so if you have visitors, forget about it. You'lll be sleeping like a baby.

Hey guys,

thanks for the heads up.... I too hate the "throw up" feeling after surgery. I did not know about the meds. I am writing that down now.

My surgery is May 14th..... one week behind NVgirl. Cool.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
