Adjusting to life with the band

Recommended Posts

What was the hardest thing you had to adjust to after you were banded?

I am in the very early stages of trying to get approved for the band so it is all I can think about.

The most difficult for me was to realize that I really, TRULY could not eat that big plate of food anymore! I just could not imagine getting full on 1/2 cup of food. But guess what?? It really happens! I'm now 4 weeks out and the swelling has gone down so I can eat more, but I'm getting my first fill tomorrow. I think just adjusting to eating SOOOOO much less yet still feeling full and satisfied was the biggest change for me. I'd often take too much food thinking "this can't POSSIBLY fill me up" and I'd end up putting half of it back in the frig as leftovers! It's sure cut down on our bill when we eat out at a restaurant.....my wife and I now split meals and both come away feeling totally satisfied, not stuffed, and not as broke!!

Angel,

The hardest thing for me has been recognizing that "Full" doesn't mean, "Oh my gosh, I need to lie down and unbutton my pants." I was banded 5 weeks ago and had my first fill 2 days ago. I'm trying to retrain my mind that full means my stomach is no longer growling and I no longer feel empty. It's very hard for me, but, I guess if I'd recognized when I'm satisfied, I wouldn't have ended up here, anyway!:)

THe most difficult thing for me is getting any work done now that I have so many Bandster buddies! I spend a lot of time chatting with them or meeting them for dinners.!! Only kidding!!!! Well, maybe...

The toughest thing for me would be slowing down when I eat and listening to the signals. Also, drinking copious amounts of Water, which is important to weight loss. I like Water, but never felt compelled to drink 64 ounces or more a day.!!!

-33lbs and counting

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
