Hey guys!!! My name is Suzy. I'm 23 years old and live in Arlington Heights, Illinois. I had gastric bypass surgery on July 22nd 2014. I have a blog if any of you want to read it! It's pretty new, and it's all about my life (especially focusing on this surgery and my experience with it this far). I am a social work major and I just want to help people. I made the blog so I could give an insight into this experience. So many peoples blogs helped me, so all I want to do is pay it forward. Feel free to ask any questions, I am an open book. Love to all!

Hi, I'm having my EDG and nutrition class on Aug, 20th. They will call me on the 21st with my surgery date. I'm very excited but scared at the same time!! I'm a food addict. Although since I have moved in with my mother she helps me control my eating better. I have started walking and I plan on starting my liquid diet maybe two weeks before surgery to get my body used to the shock...lol Have you lost any weight? One if the things I am worried about is skin, I've always Bern big so my skin has always been stretched. I don't want to look horrible with a lot of extra skin.

breehuskins - I have lost 35 pounds total since starting the pre op liquid diet. 15 of those pounds were lost after surgery. It's a struggle for sure, but it's very worth it! I want to be alive and healthy to raise my daughter! Glad your mom helps you out, it's very good to have support from out families!! You totally don't have to at all, but if you read my blog there's a lot of pre/post surgery struggles and such on there that may help you know what to expect better.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
