Not Even a Bite of Wedding Cake?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a date for surgery yet, but will be sometime late September. My daughter is getting married in June of 2015. If I have a small piece of cake at the reception will it be horrible? Dumping syndrome? What will happen? Thanks!

Depends on how it affects you. A bite won't hurt you even if you dump most of the time. But it's almost a year away.

I've wondered too but I probably just wouldn't eat the frosting, just the cake. And I'd try taking a bite of cake at home before trying it elsewhere just in case.

I had my surgery in Nov 2013. I had my first slice of birthday cake in July. I did o.k. I can't handle a lot of frosting, so sometimes that is set aside. You will learn what you can eat and what sweets are difficult. Start out with one bite and then wait to see if your pouch will accept. If you still feel ok, take another bite. I have passed on some cakes and eaten a small amount of another.

I made my husband some key lime Cookies about a week ago. There was some left over frosting. A couple of days later, my brain was convincing me I needed something sweet. So I tried a small bite of frosting and it tasted about twice as sweet as it should have. I didn't get sick, but my tastes buds have definitely changed.

You know, your daughter's wedding will still be very special even if you don't eat cake. I've found that changing how I view eating/food is a key to success.

As mentioned above, I'd highly recommend trying it at home first if you're adamant about having some at the reception.

For me personally, I wouldn't even try a bite, as the sugar in regular ketchup was enough to make me dump, so I wouldn't even dare to smell regular cake, let alone try eating some.

I would have a bite and that's pretty much it. I went to my friends baby shower a few months back and I had a bite and didn't want anymore. My body and taste buds have changed a lot. So I am satisfied with a little amounts of it. I used to be a foodie and now my relationship has changed with food. I eat to live and not live to eat.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
