unable to keep down liquids

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 days out and as of last night started throwing up. I had this issue in the hospital apparently the area where my pouch and intestines meet swells shut. My surgeon is giving me til 5pm to get in fluids and keep them in otherwise its back to the hospital and ivs.

Advice please because I really don't want to go back. My first stay was 5 days. I also have a home health nurse who's treating an abscess so I don't want to go in with open wounds.

Thanks-Leena

Wow Leena, you have had a rough go of it! I really hope your problems are all resolved soon. Going back into the hospital might not be such a bad thing. Could help you get past these problems. Good luck to you.

I'm back in the hospital on ivs and meds via iv. Still vomiting up bile. My surgeon thinks it's too soon for a stricture. I'll be 2 weeks out tomorrow. He thinks it's just swelling. So he's keeping me here until it stops.

I had a similar experience but I couldn't keep down mushy foods once I got to that phase around the second week. My doc put a scope down my throat and dilated where my intestine was attached to the pouch. It was to narrow. This was an easy peasy procedure and I have had 0 problems since. I am 8 weeks out now. I'm actually shocked your doc hasn't done this already.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
