Recommended Posts

I had surgery the bypass 6/24/14 and almost a month out and I'm not loosing I've maybe lost 5 pounds since surgery... I am doing everything I'm suppose to so what could be wrong? I'm so upset I'm still in pain I have a stitch that has not dissolved and you look st stomach and see that is pulled tight my stomach indents do it still is very sore and tender, I still can't lie in my bed I sleep sitting up every night. I do not regret my decision just don't know what I'm doing wrong and wondering when or of I will ever be normal again.

Thank you all to can give me advice I wish you all good luck on your journeys :)

Sounds like you need to talk to your surgeon about all of this. I'm still pre-op, so not an authority by any means, but I would think by this time you would be losing. Of course, everyone's different. But, it also seems like you shouldn't be having pain at this point. I would call my doctor's office if it were me.

tigerlily14---I would also recommend talking with your surgeon; not that anything is "wrong" about not losing more than 5 pounds, but because you're still having pain and the suture "looks funny".

Don't be too discouraged...you are not very far out from surgery and your body is HEALING. You may just be one of us who loses slower than others...but it will come off, just don't give up!!

Keep us posted on your progress.

I go to my surgeon in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping I can hold off till then about the pain.... But. Its discouraging cause as heavy as I am the weight should be falling off and its not I just wanna cry.

Tigerlily14 hang in there I agree with the above statements give your body time to heal it can take 8 weeks for your body to heal and the Protein Shakes and Water helps your body heal as far as your incision goes I will discuss this with your doctor I'm sure you will start loosing soon I had 2 stalls and I'm only 8 weeks out , you will get there .

Like the others I agree with them about consulting your doctor about the pain and the stitch. I had surgery on 6/25/14 and since I started soft foods I gained about 5 pounds. I only eat 4 ounces of food three times a day. All my food comes off the list the dietitian gave me. They told me that we would stall but I didn't think it would be this soon. However, I am losing inches. I usually do an hour on the treadmill or 12 miles on the bike, so I am pretty sure I have gained some muscle in there somewhere. My husband tells me not to worry, but I am afraid the doctor will be upset with me for not losing.

I'm sure you're upset and for sure wondering what's going on with the weight loss. My mom stalled but was loosing inches. Maybe it would help the nerves by switching focus from pounds lost to how great of a job you are doing each day by sticking to your guidelines and exercise, and making heathy choices. I'm sure you're already doing this though :) keep up you're awesome work! You're body will heal up and things will start balancing out too. You've done a lot to get to where you are now keep that hard work flowing forward :)

My advice: keep trying! I'm only 6 days post op, and I am still above my pre surgery weight (grrr!). I've tried to add more Water, but it's a game (how much can I drink before I hurt) every minute. Do check your inches.

Also, how do you feel today? Do you feel better, can you move easier, is walking better? Try not to fear the numbers, they are just numbers. (That being said, I should try to follow my own advice!)

Seems to me you are doing great!! Although, I would be angry/frustrated. :-)

Ps: funny looking suture would have me in a fit to see my surgeon!

One reason I'm not to worried about talking to him about the suture is because he has already told me my ab wall was thick and so he had to go in really deep so anchored everything down really well so I'm thinking that's what it is. I have days that are easier than others :) But I know I'm going to be on the side of loosing soon lol. I need to simply be worried about health right now :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
