Lost 15 glad to be gone pounds!

Mamie you are a superhero! 3 miles is great! I walked my driveway yesterday twice and felt like I had run a marathon!

Any ideas of how to get my incision to stop hurting when I walk? It's only the large on on the left side.

Hey @ ferguson23024! The only thing that actually made my incision feel better was walking. I would walk extremely slow in the beginning, adding light pressure to 'support' it, but I find now, the more inactive I am, the area gets more tender/sore. Kinda weird, but walking really has been the staple in this process for me.

Good morning friends how is everyone this week. Well my 14 day weigh in I have lost 33.3 pounds feeling very good about that. I think that's the walking that I've been doing has been really healthy. Gives me time to be by myself to clear my mind and I think get the endorphins going. I try to scramble eggs this morning I was afraid to try because many people had said that they are kind of difficult. Well what a delicious thing to eat went down fine and feel fine after. Hey everyone have a great day. Thank you for all your support I don't think I could've done it without you. I am glad now that I had the surgery no regrets!

Hi. Surgery was on the 8th. All is going great. 14lbs. down since surgery,43 down since starting my process in May. A couple things I've learned quickly... 1) don't eat too fast, it comes back up and 2) don't get cocky and think my baby tummy can handle the next food stage when it's clearly not ready for it. Worse cramps than labor and up it came. I'm just all tired of liquidy pureed foods. Patience isn't one of my strong suits, but believe me, this has taught me a valuable lesson in self discipline. Exactly why I choose this particular surgery!

So we've lived in the house that we're in now for about 25 years. We're just about a mile from the grocery store. I've always said "oh we should walk to the grocery store and get our groceries". but I never really had the energy or the wherewithal to walk there. So today I walked to the grocery store just pick up a few things and I walked back. Feeling accomplished!!! RNY July 8, 2014.

Leena,

I have an infection in one of my incisions. They took the staples out and they are having me pack it. Is this the same as your abscess?

It is horrible! The first time I took everything off to change it out I almost passed out! Literally. My husband now has the duty to change everything.

I am so ready for this incision to be glued up and starting to heal like my other one is. I go back to the dr on 8/5. Hopefully they do it them.

I wish you luck on a speedy recovery! You have had it rough. Hope things go smoothly for you for the rest of your healing!

Vickie

My abscess is at my largest incision site. I opened on its own 6 days post op. Then my surgeon went in & cleaned it later on day 6, 9 and 15. All the other days I have a nurse coming out to repack it. We started with 1/2 inch gauze wuth iodaform and are down to 1/4 inch. Your insurance should cover a visiting nurse as well as supplies. I changed the outer dressing every 3 hours in the beginning and now every 9. It was the size of 3 golf balls and has significantly gone down. Try to take your psin med 15-20 minutes before repacking.

@@Leena - glad you're home and doing better! You certainly deserve to be on the upside by now. :-)

Each day I'm feeling better and have more energy. Still struggle with getting the shakes in and haven't had any problems on soft foods. I just chew everything until it's applesauce. Irritating how quickly your food can get cold while you're spacing out your bites lol but it's a small price to pay! Losing slower than I expected, down 11lbs since my surgery on the 8th and down a total if 43lbs since my highest weight in April, but I'm good as long as I'm losing. Will very shortly need to start getting some clothes...starting to get that 'full diaper booty' (as my husband calls it) in all if my pants! Lol. What an awesome problem to have!!! Hope all are doing well - would love to see your updates!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
