What is wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

Soup isn't going to fill you up because it goes right through your pyloric valve. Refried Beans can be a similar slider for some. Plus your stomach is still healing from surgery, where nerves were cut and tissues bruised. It isn't sending signals properly to your brain yet because it isn't healed. If I were you I would stop wondering why you aren't feeling restriction (it will come - provided you don't keep abusing your healing stomach) and start wondering WHY you are choosing to eat an entire can of soup or refried beans. Is that okay under your plan?

Nothing wrong with you. Those are very soft foods that slip through. When you move to firm Protein (don't rush it), you will see restriction.

This is why the nutritionists caution us to measure our food. Right after surgery, you often don't really feel full, even after a larger amount of liquids or soft foods than you really should be having at once. Please be careful. At this stage you are still delicate.

i agree with the others- my biggest concern for you would be causing a leak or popping your suture line. this is very possible from large amounts initially, and i agree that the 'fullness' thing didn't happen immediately. i didn't note 'full' until i went to flaked fish and for some reason, 1 tsp and BOOM it was there. almost to the point of discomfort.

now, 3 wks out I am on puree/softs hybrid sort of thing and i pretty much know about 1TBSP plus 1 tsp and i'm totally FULL. but liquids, they still go down easy, quickly, and in large amounts without issue.

you need to measure your food! you should not be eating an entire can of anything at this point. your stomach is still healing, you are going to hurt something if you eat to much at once.

can eat can of Soup or refried Beans at one time.

why are you trying to test yourself, and see how much you can eat?

as everyone else says, you don't/won't feel any tummy restriction til you are done with the liquid phase

then mush, pureed, soft - and finally solids

important not to rush into anything with your food order/process

you have the rest of your life to eat real food :)

wait a few weeks to successfully follow the above

remember you just had major surgery :o

be nice to your poor little new tummy :)

good luck

kathy

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
