Trying to decide now between lapband or lapband with plication. I'm 210, 5", 42 BMI, will be happy to be 145 and still able to eat kind of normal...Not excited about having to get fills, but also don't want extremely invasive surgery. Basically, I want my cake and eat it, too. That's why we're all here, right? Haha

I would appreciate any feedback on your opinions of lapband vs. lapband with plication... And aetna approval process, time frame before surgery, or any other tips!

If I had to do this all over again, I'd opt for band w/plication. The two forum members I know of here, haven't needed a fill and feel satisfied with less food than I do. Plication is similar to being sleeved without the removal of 85% of your stomach. You don't get the ghrelin reduction but you do feel satisfied with less food.

Wise choice. Looking forward to hearing more about your journey!

Band with plications is the bomb. I have had several fills but did most of it without fills. Plus of the plications is "No bandster Hell". Also, I feel if I ever had to have Fluid removed from band, I could maintain with the plication alone.

Wow I was never told of that option. Might have done that. I can't say now. I'm glad I had the surgery though. Feeling better everyday. Taking the kiddos to a waterpark tom. I'm going get in a lounge chair and soak up some sun. Best of luck with the choice you make!

I wish that I had known about plication before my band was installed, I'd have pushed for it. It would be nice to have that bit of extra help. My band rocks, it may have rocked a bit harder with the plication. :D

If you feel good about the plication and have researched it and feel it will work well for you along with your band, go for it! Why not? :D

Holy sh*t! I just noticed that my BMI is now below 50! Do you know how long it has been since I have had a BMI under 50? :D

What's the difference between lap band and lap band plication ??

The Lap Band can be installed alone or it can be combined with a procedure called Plication. Plication is where your surgeon "folds" your stomach in on it's self and stitches the folds together to form a much smaller main stomach. There is no cutting of stomach tissue and, if the Plication, for whatever reason doesn't work for you, it is reversible by simply removing the sutures. Think of it as a pseudo Gastric Sleeve-ish kinda thing. If you have the option to add Plication when you get your band, you might want to go for it. A lot of people who have had the duo are really happy with it.

Personally, I wish I had read up on it, more before I got my band. Had I known then what I know now, I would have added Plication to the pile when I had my surgery. As it is, I am happy with my band and I figure, should God forbid, I lose my band for any reason, maybe I can revise to Plication. :D

Sylvia 45 is exactly right! Having had no other WLS than the band with plication, I can't be sure if what I'm experiencing is due to both Procedures, or if I would have felt the same way with only the band. I feel okay for a few hours and then suddenly sick to my stomach and it's very uncomfortable in general. I am sure I've lost weight, but I don't even care to know because I'm literally praying that I can just get through each day without throwing up. -4 days post op

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
