Got my date...help me to not talk myself out of it.

Recommended Posts

So I had my band out in early June.my surgery for the sleeve is scheduled for July 16th. I am so beyond nervous and the killer part is I feel pretty darn great right now. I'm no longer super uncomfortable, I'm still eating small portions and I'm losing weight like crazy. Do I really even need the sleeve? I lost 115lbs with the band. I am about 60 lbs from goal. I just don't know what to do. I was expecting to be ravenous and eating anything that wasn't nailed down but it is so not like that. The band taught me how to eat for 4 years. Any feedback would be helpful!

I'm a pretty thrifty person and for me, it would come down to one thought. Am I paying for the sleeve or is insurance going to cover? If you're paying out of pocket, then maybe wait a year or so and see how you do without it. You may find that you don't need it. Or, especially if you're covered, I think that because the band taught you how to eat and you're proving right now that you truly have changed your relationship with food, that you'll be even more successful with the sleeve. I'm still a newbie with mine- but I'm slowly seeing that it's a blessing. If you have the opportunity to get it and have your insurance cover it, then why not? It will just help to ensure that stay a healthy weight for life.

Lifestyle change is a big part of success with the sleeve and sounds like you have that part started. But the sleeve also gives you restriction and hormonal and bile acid changes that physically assist with weight loss and maintenance. That is why I went for it. If lifestyle changes alone were enough I would never have kept gaining my weight back from every loss. The body purposely increases ghrelin when you lose significant weight and so you can't help but feel hungry and it's hard to battle true hunger. With sleeve (and to a certain extent bypass) surgery ghrelin is reduced and will not spike after weight loss as it does without surgery. It's another tool in The drawer to keep it off.

No need to be nervous or no need to talk yourself out of it sweety -- however, it's very normal to feel that way. I had my sleeve done 2 months ago tomorrow and I don't remember EVER feeling so good and being so happy. I only regret not having it done sooner. I'm super ok with the small amounts of food, eat everything, down 30+ lbs since surgery, I've had no complications at all, and feel amazing!! I was a bit uncomfortable the first 4 days, nothing too bad, not pain, just bloating and gas which walking helped tremendously. The 4th day out I felt pretty good, the 7th day out I felt myself, totally good. Hang in there, before you know it, it'll be over and you'll feel amazing! Good luck, stay positive and WALK WALK WALK after surgery!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
