Question on Necks

Recommended Posts

I am looking at my banding coming up in late May. My biggest concern is that I have this nasty double chin thing and that it will turn in to a turkey waddle when I lose the weight. Do you find that your chins go away or just fall to your collar bones? I am 55 but have good skin.....

It really depends on many factors... Such as if you lose it very quickly and your skin has a hard time catching up.

Most people lose their weight in their upper region of their body first.

Face, neck, shoulders, and breast.

You might want to ask your doctor his/her opinion.

I had a little bit of one, I was MOST alarmed. I had a double chin but not a really bad one, I never carried a lot of weight on my upper body, so fat face compared to now, yeah, but I was never really heavy there. For a while after my face thinned out I noticed a bit of a turkey waddle and figured, geez, I'm not happy about this but I am almost 40, sigh. Weight loss doesnt always do great things for your face - was it Zsa Zsa Gabor who said eventually you have to choose between your face and your bum?

Anyway, I digress. That was about 8 months ago and it has improved somewhat. The skin has obviously caught up. I can pinch it and it stays pinched for a microsecond though. Dont talk to me about the dark circles under my eyes though - my face is now so bony that my deep set eyes look worse than ever.

We all have to age. I think the secret is to learn to live with it and do it gracefully, otherwise you'll be a) spending hard earned dollars on useless expensive products promising miracles and :) cutting your face to pieces and ending up looking like a stunned mullet, or worse, like Nicole Kidman. Anyone who is an Aussie and remembers Nicole when she was fresh, young and natural with curls and freckles will know what I mean.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
