Binging Banded

Recommended Posts

Well i made it almost two years without ever eating the junk some folks talk about going down easy - maybe have had a few Cookies, a few small bags of chips but have really followed those old bandster rules pretty much to the letter -

yesterday had a meltdown/depression (too long to go into here) coupled with horrible pms (i started the day with a blob of ketchup with salt in it - soooo sad) and just a feeling of giving up - why the hell am i doing everything right and basically the only banded person in the world still fat and not losing -suffice it to say at an all time low

well i learned how to binge with the band and i wont share cuz i'm sure you can imagine - had more then my fill all day of sweets and salt and fell right back into my old pattern of eating to soothe myself.

i hope i can stop - i feel like i crossed some line of just giving up. i have been there before but always pull myself back up out of this band despair but it was always without that reminder of how much food helps me.

it also felt good to eat and eat - you see what i mean??? i feel broken and unfixable right now.

It happens. We all have our moments...especially when PMS kicks in!!! So PLEASE do not beat yourself up about this. Just move on and get back on track. You are not broken...you are hormonal. Trust me...I have terrible PMS problems and I know how depressed and down it can make you feel. It's terrible. So, just try to relax and get through it and hopefully you'll feel different in another day or two. Hang in there!

Thank you both for your support - I was able to pull it together a little more today (not great but not as out of control) I think it will be better tomorrow -

I have so been there. I actually had a day of overindulging myself today. Was just feeling depressed and a friend came over with my favorite vice, tortilla chips and cheese dip. Thank goodness I can't eat like I could before banding but still it wasn't a pretty picture. Tomorrow is another day and I will pick myself up and get back on track. You can do this, I have faith in you :)

Sue FROM RUSSIA - how cool is that living there and for 10 years!!! I just got up -having my coffee and 'deciding' on how to get my head together and I saw your post! What timing you have. You have pushed me over the edge to get my butt in gear. I still feel a little shaky but I can do it.

Although it works for others I have been eating under/up to 600 calories a day almost since my last fill (and I have lost a few pounds) but I just don't feel like it is enough for me. I think part of what happened over the weekend (PMS being #1) but it was like my old days super dieting - when you go off you explode into food. I am going to eat a little more - i think it is better for me.

thanks for the support and kick to get going again. mary

Mary have you only lost 14 pounds since being banded in 11/05? Or you just have not updated your signature? But if that is true what does your doctor have to say about your weightloss, is there some other medical reason for the lack of weightloss?

Hi Tann

My ticker is right - hence my ongoing depression, frustration, absolute at my wits end .....I can't go into it all again because my story is all over this site but I have tried everything and my doc doesn't have much more to say - i've been unfilled to try to eat more, i've eaten calories between 600 and 1500 and have years of food diaries, i exercise strenuously although now at 600 calories i don't do much as i have no energy. my latest is considering a natural hormone doc (1000), or an endocrinologis (i had my thyroid tested and it's smack in the middle normal 2.0) but I'm holding off on the endocrinologist until i move middle of the year and have insurance again.

The band has helped me not yo yo up as i used to do about a 50lb gain/loss a year but other then that I am more insane and crazy feeling like what the hell is wrong with me - is there anyone that can help me. I don't think so - it is lonely lonely lonely.

:) Ok just remember that what happened yesterday was yesterday! Shit happens there are going to be set backs but you really can't kick yourself for what happened. Its a new day. Go for a walk or do something good for yourself. As far as the weight loss goes have you talked to your doctor? Im sure you have. Im still new to this band but ive heard a lot of ppl say that keeping a food journal has helped to evaluate whats going wrong. Maybe you could take that into the doctor.

I hope you are feeling better today, and just remember we're all here for you!!

Take Care,

Paula:)

Hey Tann & Paula

NO WORRIES I always appreciate any/all advice. Paula thank you for thinking of me. Yes, I have about 16 months of food diaries although the last few months have been sporadic - kind of gave up on it so should be doing it.

I will figure out what is wrong with me one day and I will post my whole story so it might help someone else.

Thanks again for caring - i am much better today. i ate two egg whites for Breakfast with not the healthiest luncheon meat (about 90 calories for 2 oz) and I'm waiting 1 hour before drinking - back to the basics.

i may actualy need another fill since i got that much Breakfast down...

hugs to you both! mary

See you have strong reserves of will hidden away!!! It was that PMS blocking the view!!! Seriously tho, I think you are right on the money with the thought of the binge being caused by the severe dieting. I am just the same. Tell me I cannot have something and I fixate on it! It is not just my eating---everything strikes me that way!! I am fine staying home, until my car is in the shop---then by golly I NEED to GO!!!!!

I know you have issues with the losing weight. I truly think the endocrinologist is going to be the big help---I hope your insurance picks it up so you can find out what is standing in your way. I know you are abiding by bandster rules way more often than not, and you exercise religiously. I am glad you have found a way to pull yourself together from this meltdown. I don't have nearly the challenge you do with being banded and still find myself jumping off the bandwagon on occasion. Hang in there---we are here pulling for you to find out what is going on. We will be here to help you through the emotional upheaval all this is bringing on you. You are always there for everyone else! Give yourself some of the understanding you always give to us!!!

(((hugs)))

Kat

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
