My girlfriend got her first fill today. Its been six weeks since her surgery. The first two week after the surgery she dropped but from week 2 to week 6 after the swelling went down and before her first fill she only lost 3 lbs during those 30 days. She was obviously frustrated. I also had the surgery last year. I never had this problem and lost weight steadily from surgery to the first fill then second and so on.... Obviously after about fill 2 or 3 the weight came off faster bc at that point it was tight and i was in the green zone. I lost 15 month one, 10 month two, 20 month three, and 15 from then on for several months.

The only conclusion I can make from her experience when comparing it to mine is that though she is eating less, its still not enough yet, so after her second or third fill, when she is in the green zone and can truly feel the restriction, hopefully the weight will start to come off more rapidly. I guess my stomach was just more sensitive so just having the band on was enough to cause me to lose steadily where as hers may be more dependent on those fills? Is this common? Do some ppl not see results until a couple of fills in? Im hoping the answer to this has to do with restriction and this problem will work itself out when she finally feels restricted... Thoughts? Similar experiences?

You're making the mistake so many make. You're comparing your journey to hers. Your journey is extraordinary imo. Very few see early results like you did. If you're projecting your feelings about this to girlfriend she could be very frustrated and disappointed?

Since your weight loss is extraordinary, let's look at the real numbers for girlfriend? Can you share those numbers with us? Maybe she's just ordinary?

tmf

BTW-Your beginning weight and hers would be helpful?

I shouldn't have included myself or any numbers bc its just confusing things... in short I'm asking, is it common to not experience a lot of progress until you get a couple of fills? Once that happens you start to really feel a difference but until then, not alot of progress?

3 lbs in 30 days isn't a lot whether you are 20 lbs over weight or 200 thats why we were very surprised.

I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. My 3rd fill gave me enough restriction/satiety to eat less food and start losing weight. It took another 3 fills to reach the green zone.

Her journey is quite normal. imo

And I believe your comment regarding losing weight if you're 200 lbs overweight or 20 lbs overweight is incorrect. Extremely overweight(morbidly obese) people typically lose much more initially than someone who is obese. Morbidly obese people can carry an extra 40-80 lbs of excess fluids that comes off much quicker than fat. That's why I asked for the numbers.

It could also have been because you experienced more swelling from the surgery that allowed you to feel satiety much sooner than she did. It's a different experience for each of us.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
