Revision - unexpectef side effects

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.. Had my revision about 8hrs ago and the pain is so uncomfortable.

I have a bit of a concern as I'm trying to take teeny tiny sips of Water and it seems to be getting stuck, therefore I have to spit it up and it's coming out as a bloody spit. Nurses say that's to be expected and asked me to minimize sipping for a lil while,, of course I don't want to be dehydrated though. Anyone else heard of this?

No. I have not heard of that. I was able to sip normally, and I didn't feel any restriction like that. I would also be concerned with the blood coming up. Are you still in the hospital? Don't let them discharge you until this is resolved.

That doesn't sound good at all. What does your doctor say?

If you're on IV fluids you won't get dehydrated. Do what the nurses tell you to do. Your stomach has been cut and sutured/stapled, of course there's going to be some blood. It looks like more when mixed with saliva and Water.< /p>

When you get home, follow the food progression exactly. Scar tissue needs to form around the sutures and or staples in your stomach to strengthen and heal. If you overdo it in the first few weeks and put pressure on the suture line, the scar tissue fibers can break down.

Congrats on your revision!!!!

Thanks all.. I got home last night still in a lot of pain but it's only been 36 hrs hope it subsides soon.. Hardest thing I ever had to experience on my life...

But the spitting up of blood has ceased and I'm able to drink and down bits of Water and liquids and keep it down now.

Blood was from my throat being irritated fm the breathing tube.. Now I'm just experiencing tons of gas pain and don't know what to do or take..

I'm surprised your sipping already. I was npo until the next day. Your getting IV fluids so you won't get dehydrated. Are they giving you the IV Tylenol? I had it post op and feel it made a world of difference with my post op pain. I never needed anything else because I was getting the IV Tylenol around the clock first 24 hours.

The blood in probably from the tube they put down your throat for the surgery it's very irritating. I would follow the nurses instructions for now.

Walk around the house as much as you can to get rid of the gas. Follow all the rules. Take no chances and in a few days you'll be surprised how much better you feel.

Thanks everyone! Last night was the first night I slept almost all the way through... I still feel drowsy and gassy but able to love around more.

I've heard of people using Gas X Strips. (The kind that dissolve on your tongue) They might work for you?

I have noticed with my revision from the band to sleeve some things get stuck where the band use to be . Well at least that is how it feels going to talk to my surgeon about that ..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
