The relief of the revisit

Recommended Posts

I don't want to gross anyone out, but my surgeon has me on the stage of trying new things. Oh, oh, oh, when it's not right I feel like collapsing. All I can do is wait for the revisit and lay down. As soon as that happens, I'm me again. This time I had one bite of a tortilla - won't be doing that again. So, now I know no fish and tortillas. If this is the impact of all carbs, I'll be in a good place with food, but figuring it out is just gross. Definitely not trying new things while out and about.

Is this the norm with folks?

I think it is normal, you may need to wait a few months and try again. For me right now, I don't handle beef well. chicken and ham I'm good but beef likes to revisit me.

Hamburger is my bane :/ I had a single bit last night and yeah...never again.

Regular, lean beef I seem to be okay with, so long as it's very well cooked and tender. (maybe because the beef was in a sauce and fall-apart-tender and moist? The burger was broken down for taco meat, and wasn't dry, but blech).

That and regular skim milk are the only things that have caused major distress so far.

Which only goes to show you how each of us have such a different experience even though we are going through the same journey. tuna and eggs are two things I do digest well, and I even put boiled egg in my tuna salad for extra Protein. But fish filets.....I can't......unless they are really really moist.

I just had my first experience with the revisit last week and It totally took me by surprise. I'm 9 weeks PO and have had zero food issues, have ben able to eat pretty much anything within my 'allowances' etc. Ate 2 oz of lean pork chop for dinner, 5 minutes later I was running for the washroom. Weirdest feeling ever and I didn't see it coming at all. Needless to say, me and pork chops will not be friends for awhile. lol!

My revisit was with watermelon. And with me, because I am apparently a glutton for punishment, this revisit has happened on 3 separate occasions. I think watermelon is definitely out for me. It's too bad though, because I absolutely love it.

I haven't had anything bother me.. I must have a cast Iron sleeve! Haha I can sit and eat watermelon for days! It's 90% Water anyway! At least up to now I haven't come across anything that really bothers me. As long as I measure everything I have been lucky I guess! Down 57 pounds and only hit one three week stall!

No FRIED FOODS!! It turns into dumping syndrome for me! I can eat anything else as long as I eat in small portions and chew well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
