I had my surgery one month ago and have had great success so far. The only thing that is odd to me is that things that used to taste good do not now. My taste seems to have changed since the surgery. Has any one else had this happen to them?

Same here. Makes me gag, but I understand it's very common. I mix it with lemon or propel drops to make it bearable.

Just out of curiosity, what other things now make you sick that you formerly liked?

Sweets. They were always my weakness, and now I can't even handle the smell if they are too close. My sense of smell IS SO strong that I can tell what people are eating down to minute ingredients, and many processed items smell horrible and cause instant nausea.

I used to live iced tea but now it tastes funny. I can not hardly stand the taste of grilled chicken now and I used to love it.

Wow, hope that doesn't happen to me. I love iced tea, especially since I'm not a coffee drinker and am trying to give up soda.

I am two months out. I do not have issues with food, but I have trouble with Water and protien. Plain water makes my stomach queasy and so does protien shakes. I mix some water enhancing drops to make it bearable and I have tried so many different Proteins but they all seem too sweet. So I just have to close my eyes and drink up so that I am meeting my docs requirements. Its just a trial and error process. Good luck to u all.

Everything I eat or drink makes me nauseous! It's driving me crazy! I had surgery on May 14th and am on pureed food or very soft food. I'm just hoping that I will eventually be able to eat without feeling ill! The upside is that I've lost a total of 31 pounds, about 22 of them since surgery day.

JMomma5, just checking in. A month ago, you said everything was making you nauseous. How are things with foods/drinks now? How is your weight loss going? Thanks.

Thanks for asking! I do still feel nauseous most of the time when I eat and can't eat much. I push through it and do ok though. I just don't enjoy eating much at all, which I suppose is good since enjoying food too much is what landed me where I was! Lol! I have lost about 42 pounds as of this morning! And I am about 9 weeks out from surgery. I wish I was down a bit more, but I'll take it! This week I've lost about 3 pounds. I hit a bit of a stall/slowdown for about 3 weeks between weeks 3-6 for some reason, but I seem to be back to losing pretty steadily now! Now I'm just waiting to see if I am going to experience the dreaded hair loss! So far so good, but I hear it often happens around 4-5 months out! I'm hoping I'll get lucky and I will be spared that!

Im not sure if I should be scared of this or look forward to it. No longer liking things like sweets, seems to be a positive side effect. However, Ive always been an extremely picky eater, and I hope this doesnt back fire on me. In a perfect world, I will no longer like all of the bad foods I use to crave, but start liking some of the things that I dont eat now. Hopefully I dont just lose the taste for things, but not gain any in return. Im already struggling with this preop diet, bc I dont like anything cream based or milky...oh and I dont like Soup either smh. Ive had to force myself to drink the broth from chicken noodle Soup (I mixed in soup flavored protein), and i mix strawberry Protein in strawberry Jello. so far this is the only way I can get my Protein in.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
