Cleared for exercise...so freaking happy :D

Recommended Posts

I am so freaking happy I saw my surgeon today for my one-month post-op visit. Down 26 lbs since surgery (51 since I started my journey), and I've been cleared to go back to yoga and whatever other exercise I want (as tolerated). I can't tell you how much I've missed yoga...it's been a regular part of my morning for the past 7 years, and not being able to do it for the past month has been probably the most difficult part of post-surgery life.

My surgeon's happy with my progress, and seemed pretty happy that I asked about exercise. I also asked about my Camelback, since I know straws are a no-no, and I wanted to see if that meant the bite-valve that I use on there was a no-no as well (he said he's never had the question before, but I could try it and see. if it bothers me, don't use it. If it doesn't, hydrate away and be happy :D)

I was very happy that he said not to worry about counting Protein right now. I mentioned that I was only taking in about 40 grams a day, and he said that's fine, because it's very difficult to be able to eat enough to get the full amount in at this point, and he'd rather I stay appropriately hydrated. In his words, the Protein will come, so don't rush and stretch anything out, or hurt myself trying to take in more than I'm comfortable with. That makes me feel good, because I was worried about not getting enough protein at this point.

Maybe I'm strange that yoga is the thing I've missed most post-surgery.

I understood that the only problem with straws are that they can cause burping and gas so if yours doesn't i would say rock it. I can also understand missing yoga, because of the mental/emotional benefits of it. I'm only 2 weeks out but I'm already choosing to do my walking in a secluded wooded walk path so that I can get some "me time" and rest my brain while Im "exercising"

Good luck in your journey and congrats on one more step "back to normal"

@@InfiniteButterfly I don't think it's strange at all that you've missed yoga the most. It's a personal and intimate connection with your own body through breathing and movement! And I'm glad you're able to practice again. I too have recently reconnected with that side of me. I had forgotten how much I missed it myself. And my body is very grateful!

Be well…

It's definitely about the air with the straws. The difference with the tube and bite-valve is once it's primed, there's little to no air in the tube. My bf offered to prime it for me so I didn't have to worry about even the initial air :)

And yes, the yoga is more than mere exercise...i always get up before the rest of the family, and it's definitely a way to center myself and clear my thoughts for the day ahead. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I didn't have it, so I'm pretty happy about being able to resume it and my other activities.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
