One Year Post and Regaining :(

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all. I had my sleeve performed on 4/22/13. My weight at the time of surgery was 357. As of today, I weigh 295 lbs. My lowest weight was around 283 lbs. Each month since having the surgery, it became easier to eat higher volumes of food. My weight loss slowed down, then stalled, and now I have regained. I admit, I don't always make the right food choices, but I exercise and try to keep moving. I relocated from SC to OH in early April and finally got up enough courage to make an appt with a surgeon. I met with him today. He thinks that my sleeve may be faulty and ordered an upper GI and lab work. He set a plan in place and asked that I lose 4 lbs in 2 weeks by my next appt. He said based on the upper GI results a RNY would be an option. My question is once you go through all those steps before the initial surgery, do the same requirements have to be met again for the insurance company for a revision? Does anyone have any info on this?

If you know you're eating too much (volume) & not the right foods, what makes you think another surgery is the answer?

I'm sorry to hear about your gain. I've never heard of a 'faulty' sleeve. What does the surgeon mean by that?

I think you misunderstood. I am able to eat more that I should with the sleeve. Doesn't mean I go out of my way to eat more. Secondly, I have my bad days and good days just like you and everyone else on and off this forum. I don't always make the right choices but, for the most part I try to stick to my maintenance plan and I exercise. I wouldn't dare consider posting what I posted if I knew good and well I wasn't doing my part most of the time. Pointless. Hope that answers your question.

He thinks there's a chance it wasn't made small enough or not performed well. I'm having issues with vomiting, nausea and some occasional pain as well.

since you never lost much weight, there is a chance your sleeve wasnt done right.

this is a good time for you to look at what you might get better at, since you will need to do pretty much the same stuff after rny surgery. good for you for going to see another doc, too many people dont try to get help from their doctor.

Eating to much of what foods. High cal sliders and liquids will defeat the surgery.

Do you have any clue what size your original surgeon created your stomach to be?

i dont know that that matters much. it is what it is. she will know what is going on after she has a contrast dye test. maybe it was botched, maybe it was stretched. maybe both.

hopefully her new surgeon can see her previous records and will understand what happened.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
