Did you wait a year before your first consult?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what you mean by "1st consult". I had monthly check ins with my doctor following surgery for a year.

The usual preference is to wait a year or so after attaining a stable weight before doing plastics, as things redistribute some once you stop losing, and the skin can tighten up some as well. This isn't an absolute rule, but is for best results, so there is some flexibility if things need to happen faster.

Usually before a plastic surgeon can tell

you accurately the procedures you need to transform your body, then it is best to be at your goal weight. Durning the consult, either in person or with pictures, you can also get a accurate price quote. Each plastic surgeon has their own rules about how long you have to be at a stable weight.

I see. I've had breast implants before. Like, 20 years ago and they need to be replaced for certain. Back then I did the consult but didn't get the surgery for 3 months. Things have probably changed by now but I wondered if it would be the same in this case.

You can get a consult now and then that usually will lock in the price if you schedule your surgery after the consult.. You can schedule it for a few months or a year later but it will lock in the price incase they go up on prices later.

I'm having surgery next month. I will have been at my current weight for 10 months. I'm 48 and haven't seen much improvement except in my legs. I'm 5'11" and 183 which is 8 lbs from my goal weight. I'm having a neck lft, arm lift, breast lift (and maybe augment), and a lower body lift.

I got a consult when I was at the top of normal BMI. it was several months before I actually had surgery and had lost 25-30 additional pounds by that time.

You should get a consult (free in most cases) after the bulk of your excess weight is gone (I'd say 75%) but no need to wait til goal or such

My bariatric team recommended two years post-op before plastics, to give adequate time to reach goal and find a healthy stable maintenance weight. My insurance only covers the panni with a certain amount of overlap and infection in the crease. Nothing cosmetic. I would be spending retirement funds for that. Oh well, I guess I will just buy a really good bra and extra Spanx, then at bedtime just let it all hang out!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
