Yesterday was the last day of my 6 month weight in. I had all my documents ready to send to my surgeons office. So I called my surgery coordinator Caral (who I must say is a doll) and told her I was on my way with my paperwork, she said it was no problem and she couldn't wait to see me (we know each other from meetings and other appointments). So as I head out, I get another call from her office, I answer and she says she needs to connect me to Michelle (she's the one who schedules the surgery) Michelle says to me "Hi Mrs. Goodridge, are you planning on having weight loss surgery on the 20th" I reply with a yes and explained to her that I have documents stating that this was my date. She the reply's that im not on the weight loss roster, which is confusing because I've done everything asked. She states that the surgery on the 20th was for my cervix to be removed....I gasped...my cervix? how, why...what!!!!! Ive never had a problem with my cervix, my WHOLE reason for coming to this hospital was ENTIRLY to have my bypass...where did the removal of my cervix come into play!!! She then puts me on hold. After about 5 minutes the director of the hospital gets on the line in the most apologetics voice and explains that something went wrong with my paperwork. Although I've done everything for This surgery, somehow I was put in a case of outpatients instead of inpatient bypass. My point is this ....I would have walked in there on the 20th, went under the knife and woke up to find that my cervix was wrongfully removed!!!!! Thank God I kept calling, Thank God I kept asking questions....things just didn't seem right. As of right now im scheduled for the 17th of june instead of the 20th....I will be having my surgery with the university of Florida. If you feel that something is wrong, ASK QUESTIONS...this is YOUR body, DONT BE AFRAID.....asking questions literally saved me from having the WRONG SURGERY

@@Mrs. Goodridge Great work on doing your due diligence and not letting up on them for a minute! More people need to advocate for themselves and ask questions and make sure they are in the right place for the right surgeries. Your story is scary, and it can happen. I know my Dad and my husband and others get annoyed when new Dr. and nurses come in to the room asking them what they are there for and they have to repeat their reason time and time again...but it's better to keep saying why you are there then someone thinking you are there for something other then the actual reason you are there!!

Good luck with your bypass and let us know how your doing after your surgery!!

You are having it in Gainesville? That is excellent! You are going to be a new woman! Glad the scary part is over and now it is smooth sailing with your cervix taking the ride and staying inside.

I didn't have something like that happen, but I have had several instances where I've had to assert my self as a patient. I think it is our number one job as a patient, is to make sure the people caring for our health are up to speed and have all the info. They are human and have many patients, and we have first hand knowledge of ourselves and our situation. Good save.

exactly. but sometime these health care " professionals" try to push the patient put of the picture. they get upset when you continue to call and ask questions....not me! this goes to to show that everyone makes mistakes....but im not going to let someone's mistake mess up my life!!!!

I got really irritated pre surgery by being asked hundreds of times my name, DOB and what surgery I was having. The day of surgery in prep I think four different people might have asked me eight times.

I think it's due to errors like this!

Also my hospital had to scan my wrist band every single time they did anything and then asked me my name and DOB again.

Thank god they caught it way before your surgery. Do you have a common name? Sometimes that is what causes the mistakes. I'm sorry that happened to you. How scary.

my name is Jennifer Goodridge....i can see Jennifer being a common name but not Goodridge. i went online to my insurance portal and they filed a claim for me to have this procedure in march.....i saw my doctor for the first im in February...and no test were done....so how could they have a diagnosis for me. i couldn't be more pleased to have gotten this correct. bow i wont be as upset when they ask me those repetitive questions anymore

Glad you caught it!! I am sure they would have caught it beforehand since they ask 5 million times what surgery are you having day of surgery.. What a disappointment that would have been to have to go home and reschedule! I would have been pissed.. I had the pharmacy mix up my perscription.. Didn't realize until I got home and opened the bottle.. It was blue pills and I though huh what antibiotic is blue looked at the bottle and damn.. It was for a 1. Man and 2. Viagra.. Thank god I didn't take it! Haha now that would have been interesting I'm sure.. No one is perfect and unfortunately mistakes happen.. My last surgery (not wls) they left gauze inside me..

Good thing this was caught. I have to say as a medical professional( nurses assistant) that it is very important that they ask you a hundred times or more who you are and your date of birth ECT. You should be more irritated and annoyed if they don't. As they take their jobs very serious when they ask these questions, you know you will get the best possible care. Also since it is so ingrained into our minds to ask these things, it becomes a habit. Hope you have a safe and successful surgery!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
