Ok, day 6 of my pre op liquid diet, I cheated! Slice of pizza and salad, I feel awful. Please tell me I'm not alone here. This is so hard on the weekends. I feel like how am I gonna get through this? How the heck am I gonna lose anything? I can't stick to any kind of diet! I want this so badly, I thought I wanted it badly enough not to cheat! But damn, so hard when everyone around you are eating and enjoying themselves. So not worth the cheat, but what's done is done, ugh...

I am on day four of pre-op liquid diet and I cheated too today. You are not alone in how you feel. I felt sick afterwards. It is better we did this before because we will not be able to do this after the surgery without painful consequences. Our bodies are in starvation mode and we reacted the only way we have been for years. We are human and we lost our will power. Soon we will have a tool in place to help us. Stay strong and busy!

Not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up. You are about to face many life changing challenges, how will you handle them?

Tomorrow is a new day. Start over. Everyday we are presented with challenges. Sometimes we are able to be strong and meet these challenges head on, then other days....well lets just say it's a big struggle. All you can do is the best you can do. Sometimes we are weak and the struggle seems too much. This is no different after surgery. You have to make the best decisions you can and when you make poor choices, suffer the consequences. We are not here to judge another person's journey... just know that you can do this and when you fall, just get up again and start over. Don't waste time beating yourself up over this. We are all human and we all make mistakes but it gets easier the longer you do this. People will always be eating and drinking things around you that you cannot or should not have so you have to find a way to fight those urges. Remember, you can't change the world....only yourself. Good luck Tomorrow will be a better day.

Thanks for all the help! I know I messed up, and tomorrow is another day. It's so disappointing to feel like a failure, but I guess this is the reason why I'm here, thanks again!

I should start my 2 week pre-op liquid diet next week and my dietician said it is a really difficult transition and...not to tell anyone she said it, lol, but if I really had to have one solid meal a day at first it would not be the end of the world. So, as was already said, tomorrow is a new day. Going completely to liquids while still having a full size stomach is not going to be easy. The point is you made it part of the day and that will help towards the ultimate goals of loading someextra weighta and shrinking your liver before surgery.

Lynn- the liquid diet is not easy, I'm in day 6 of 14. I have struggled this week, been a little shorter tempered, but today I feel better. I can do this. It's only one more week. I also gave up coffee this week. You can do this! Stay busy. I had several different Protein Shakes, serve real different flavors, to give me some options. I'm allowed chicken or beef broth which is a nice change from the cold Protein Drinks. sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicles are great for the sweet cravings. good luck to you!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
