Did you lose tons of inches first?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks post op sleeved on May 9th and I've lost 13 pounds since then with a total lost of 25 pounds since 4/25, I notice that my frame looks a lot smaller than what the numbers show and my clothes are a lot looser especially in the stomach and waistline. I'm just wanting feedback from others in regards to inches lost and it's impact on what you see in the mirror versus the scale. Thanks

I'm the same way. I was sleeved 4/24 and lost a total of 38, everyone says look like I lost more than that! And the mirror makes me smaller!

It's like a fun total roller coaster ride between how/when pounds come off and inches come off--and different for everybody. I'm at three years post-op. My weight loss of 112 pounds has stabilized, but inches still drop off here and there. It's always fun when you put on a pair of pants that are all of a sudden a little looser in the waist. Enjoy the ride. . .

not sure, only almost 2 weeks out but according to my mom, I've lost weight in my face and I've noticed that my shirts are loser and I can actually fit in my shorts that were a tad too tight - still a bit uncomfortable when sitting but I fit.

Even though it's more fun to see the scale drop, I prefer to lose inches because then your clothes get looser and you look/feel smaller. At the beginning of my journey (I'm almost 6 months post opt) I was frustrated because I watched my weight go from 245, to 220, to 215 and I was still wearing the same sized clothes. Granted, the clothes did feel a teensy, tiny bit looser, but it was such a teensy, tiny difference that I wasn't sure if I was loosing weight or if the clothes just feel looser b/c i'd worn them and as with all clothes, they stretch a little as you move around in them.

I didn't get down to a sz 16 jeans (was in an 18/20) until I was about 205lbs.

At 198lbs I was able to squeeze into a size 14, but it was tight. Now I'm about 163 lbs and in a sz 10, which is GREAT but I was wearing a sz 10 when I was 176 lbs. I really want to wear a single digit (like an 8 or 6) because the last time I was able to wear that size I was probably like 12 or 13 (I'm 30 now).

I would prefer to lose inches AND the number to go down on the scale. Maybe you should measure yourself daily with a tape measurer the way I get on the scale daily then you'll be able to keep track of your progress. I also kept ''too tight'' clothes and would periodically try them on and be tickled when they'd start to feel a teeny bit loose, then loose, then baggy, then falling off me.

Twelve weeks this coming Thursday and I'm over 45 lbs down. I was so excited that the first weight that I lost was my upper body weight. Smaller bras, on smaller fastener setting, now a deep breath feels great, not like I need to catch my breath or my chest is too full. My linebacker shoulders are significantly smaller. People tell me you can really see the difference in my neck and face. My lower body is smaller too just not so drastically. I'm in smaller slacks and with Lycra, in my jeans yesterday, I could stick both arms into my jeans.

All this said, the next 45 lbs need to be more about working and burning it off, as well as working the eating program. Time to really start working the saddlebags. This journey has been SO worth it so far!!

I have noticed the inches coming off too. I haven't lost any weight in 3 days but I have lost 28 lbs since I started the pre-op diet, Sleeved on May 12th & then the post-op diet. My pants (2x & 24s) fit better but my shirts (3x) have all gotten to big. My bras fit better too. The biggest thing I noticed was the distance between my stomach & my car steering wheel. Before there was about 1/2" of space but now there is about 2" of space. I keep trying on some smaller shirts but I'm not quite there yet. Maybe tomorrow. I still need to arrange my closet according to size. I saw someone say to do this & I think it's a great idea.

I am a little over 2 months out. I had an extremely slow start. My face was the biggest indicator of the lose of weight before the numbers. Everyday someone new asks me how much I weigh (I was very open about my surgery). At first I was proud to tell them but now the numbers are staying the same but my clothes and confidence are improving which gets me noticed! I've lost 37 lbs ( not great compared to most) but I only have to lose 70 total to hit my regular BMI. I have major health issues and still do. I feel great even though the numbers and docs say I have a long way to go! The scale will eventually move but I have learned to "skirt" around the numbers people are very curious to know about! I like being mysterious now!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
