Average loss?

Recommended Posts

I think it all depends on what your current weight is..10 days before surgery I lost 10 pounds and I had my surgery on march 31. Today is may 30 and I have lost 27 pounds in 2 months which is about 3 weeks a pound. I don't want it to be rapid weight loss but more steady. The idea is to keep going and meeting your goals and eating Proteins. The day of my surgery I was 200 and now I am 173.

Different people…different sizes…different metabolism…..different calorie intake…different amount of exercise…..different lives…..

…its going to result in a TON of different experiences with weight loss….

My doc is happy with 1-2 pounds per week.

I agree @@Jim1967 comparing only sets you up for frustration.

Be happy with any loss….big or small….its that much less being carried around.

I didn't gain it overnight and it surely isn't coming off overnight!

It is such good advice to not compare oneself to others. It is really hard though. I need to keep seeing it to remind myself. When I just think of myself and my own journey I am pleased. When I compare myself to others that had the surgery around the same time I start to get bummed as to why I've not lost as much as them. That's a slippery slope for me because I start to feel betrayed by my body. I have to work extra hard, exercise more extreme but that's just the way it goes. It's the only way. I now realize this surgery was the only way I could have gotten to the weight I am now. All these same things I did before the surgery was not getting me there. For whatever reason that scale is going downward instead of up for the first time in my life and I am so happy about it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
