Delayed effect for fills?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've read several posts that say that sometimes it takes a couple of days to feel the full effect of a fill. Does anyone know why?

I really appreciate all the information on this board. Thanks! :)

Hi, know no ones for sure why fills can sometimes take several days to feel the full impact of restriction. Most of my fills have taken up to 2 -3 days to give me the full amount of restriction I will attain. Sometimes it can take up to several days to reach it's full effect. That is why clinics like patients to wait a minimum of 2 weeks between fills. My last fill kept tightening for up to 3 weeks before it stabilized! At other times out of the blue I feel like my restriction loosens up for a day or two but then spontaneously tightens up again. Sometimes you can drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out especially when you are newly banded but as long as it keeps working I just go with the flow.

I went for my second fill yesterday and while I was there I asked about this topic and for sure it is a stumpper. The body and band are pretty complex sometimes. There seems to be no reason as to why restriction comes and goes from day to day.

Speaking of fills though this last one is better than the last. I still am not really restricted as of yet but I am aware that my band is there now. I am on softs for now but even with the soft food I just feel like my stomach is tighter (for lack of a better word).

Gaffer you have a 10cc band as well right? what are you up to in terms of your fill and how do you feel with that?

Hi: As one who is "unfilled" untl Monday, could I hazzard a guess. Could it be because the Fluid is in the tubing and needs time to work its way down. And as it is fluid, perhaps when you exercise, the stomach contracts and forces the fluid back into the tubing. ??????? Doddie

My theory is that it's Fluid in the body that moves: Our stomach tissues respond to the additional pressure from the band when fill is added by thinning out or something, and then over time it sort of returns to its usual thickness, thereby increasing our restriction.

Remember, the level of restriction we experience is a function of more than just the amount of Fluid in the band. Our bodies' responses to various stimuli are much more complex, and IMO are way more directly responsible to the sensation of restriction than we think.

Good guesses people! Alexandra seems to be the winner with the closest answer :clap2: with it partially having to do with mucous that is present in the stomach lining! But in all I have read in books written by leading lapband surgeons there is just no concrete answer and is just one of life's little mysteries! Seems to be many factors that can impact restriction for varying reasons.

I have the Inamed AP Large band which hold 14CC total. I had 4CC for my first fill and 1CC for my second. It seems my second fill has faded somewhat but I will live with it for a couple of weeks and go from there.

Thanks everyone. I've had one fill (2cc in a 9cc band). I'm scheduled for another fill on June 14th so I guess I'll see if there is any difference then. I do find that if I eat my Protein first and eat slowly I do get full much quicker than before surgery. I'm also still trying to adjust to being "not hungry" rather than "full".

Sometimes I think that I am "overthinking" everything and worrying too much about the restriction and forgetting that the band is a tool and I still have to work hard to achieve the weight loss I desire.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
