My VGS Journey - *Will updated Frequently

Recommended Posts

Well then, where to begin. This journey of the VGS is not the typical, spoon fed, lb of bacon 3 times a day, with a side of fried chicken as a appetizer, before every other meal. Granted my diet has not been the "best" it could be, I have had environmental influences that contributed to just eating the wrong foods for comfort and/or grazing like a cow in a pasture alone.

With the upcoming birth of my first son, I want live a life with him that is full of enjoyment and excitement. While I posses a warrior mindset, I just don't look the part anymore.

My build is not typical of that "morbidly obese" person. I stand 5-11 and currently weigh in at 385 pds. However I carry it very well, have no problem keeping my 10 yr younger than me fiance' happy and remain active in a variety of activities. I just can't shake the weight.

Bring it back to 3 weeks ago, from a injury to my leg that has a lot of scar tissue, I am prone to infections, particularly staph or strep. The infectious disease physician put it point blank, "You are healthy as a 21 year old Spartan, no heart disease, no diabetes, no high blood pressure, not medicated, arteries and veins that are clear, lung function is great since you don't smoke, BUT, if you want to live to see 45, you need to drop 200 pds yesterday!"

Insurance does not cover any form of WLS... PERIOD.. Doesn't matter who what when where or why.. PERIOD. RED LIGHT, Do not pass go, Do not collect 200.00.

Cash price 13.5K all inclusive.. Certified funds..I thought about starting a GOFUNDME.

So I didn't rob a bank, or knock off a jewelry store, but I did swallow pride and went to my family. Being a public servant, I just don't have that kind of cash laying around, no matter what Hollywood Blockbuster you watch and think all the guys are "on the take"...

A week from today 02JUN2014 will be a new beginning, I have been shaking it for 2 weeks now, I feel better, more energy, but just ready to the flux capacitor fired up and go back to the future.

Pics will be forthcoming, however, given the nature of my professional duties the face will be blurred.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
