Weighing with reason daily ...

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery July 1, with all the pre-op stuff on June 17. I know one of the most common things said is to stay off the scale. I weigh every single morning because I can gain 8 or so pounds in one day. I have a Lasix to take for those days and it'll help get the Water weight under control.

I have to know what my weight was so I know what it is when I start to puff up and how much I have gained. How is this going to affect things after surgery? Anyone else go through this? Or will I just not puff up anymore (feet swelling, leg swelling, etc.)?

Anyone? Thanks so much!

It was after I'd lost about 60lbs that I noticed that my feet stopped swelling. The more weight I dropped the less frequent I noticed it happening, along with a reduction in the random pains in my knees and ankles.

I believe that people are most often told to stay off the scale because they get frustrated when the scale isn't continuously going down. Weight loss isn't a going to be a steady downward path. The body is going to figure out at some point that calories have been decreased and start trying to conserve it's food reserves, but eventually weight loss will begin again.

I never had an issue weighing myself several times a day. It was just something to do and I wanted to see how much I weighed before and after eating, before and after peeing and pooping. I know, I'm weird... but I'm not the only one!

Check out my blog post - How often do you weigh yourself?

If start out with the attitude that there are going to be days when the scale isn't going to move and promise you'll be patient till the weight loss starts again, then you shouldn't be afraid to weigh yourself as often as you want.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
