I think its so strange that we've all had the same surgery and have such different post op instructions ranging from post op diet to meds after etc that makes me wonder how our results can eventually be the same.... I took the meds today i would much rather swallow my nexium capsule but i was told no pills bc of possible sharp edges but this is a capsule i wonder if its allowed...

@@abigail mine are capsules too and i just open the capsules and the lil mini beads are in it i pour into a teaspoon and swallow them per the dr

I am ONLY goin to follow my dr orders and I hope everyone else does too!!

Results are not the same.

Some people have various complications, ranging from excess of vomiting to suture line leakage to death. Some people never lose all their weight. Some people regain some or all of their excess weight.

The surgeon you choose DOES matter. Following his/her instructions also matters. There is a reason that some places have earned Bariatric Center of Excellence designations, it's not by accident. It shows in the results.

i never noticed that before, i just looked up my surgeon and he does have that title, so thats a relief. but what i meant to say was not all but most from what ive read, alot of ppl that have great results, achieved them by doing completely different things post op from other pts and those pts have amazing results as well....i mean theres no standard. although the course of the procedure differs from surgeon to surgeon dont we all get sleeved the same way in the end?

To a point. .... In the sense that we all end up with most of our stomachs removed. But surgeon techniques vary widely, as well as their pre- and post-op instructions, as you mentioned.

For instance, my surgeon does a double suture line to prevent leaks. And he does the leak test during the surgery so you can start drinking as soon as you wake up, instead of making you wait for a swallow test the next day. Some surgeons still do only open procedures instead of laparoscopic!

Since each surgeon is so different and they know their own technique inside and out, that is why it's so important to follow your own doctor's instructions.

Even a huge variation in pre/post op plans and such among centers of excellence!

Per my doc heart burn is generally not a side effect of the bariatric surgery. However, there is a small percent that have an issue. The band seems to be the worst.
