Pork allowed on 2 week pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I just started my 2 week pre-op diet that allows me 4 Meal Replacements per day (high Protein Drinks, bars, Jello, soups), sugar free drinks, green vegetables, and 1 serving of a lean meat. But why is lean pork not listed? My paperwork only mentions chicken, gr. beef,& turkey. What is the problem with pork? Especially 4 oz.cooked in a smoker with only dry seasonings? Got any suggestions or thoughts?

Pork the other white meat. I dont see any reason not to eat it. I currenty make my own sausage and other dry meat products such as Procutto. Did you know if a pig is finished on Barley the meat will contain more Omeg 3 oil than salmon. To bad the pork industry doesn't finish pigs this way.

My understanding is they don't put pork on the pre-op list because most people will interpret that as bacon, sausages, and hot dogs which are loaded with fat and calories, not to mention it is a sodium bomb that can make you retain Water. Pork also does not sit very well with many post-op so it might be good to get used to not having it in your diet for awhile.

There are some very lean pork options, like very lean ham steak, but still watch out for the sodium and nitrates.

Oh ok.....I didn't even think to ask at the class the other day. Of course I think of all these questions when it's the weekend. So I try to find answers on here! I know I won't be eating any kind of meat or solid food for several weeks post-op. I just wanted to add some variety to the pre-op choices. I guess I can call on Monday & ask. Thanks for your input!

I don't see why you couldn't eat pork tenderloin, if ground beef is included. My two cents only.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
