I just experienced my first stuck food. Holy painful! I had half of a slice if deli turkey. I though I chewed it up enough but apparently not... Tips to avoid this in the future?

Maybe it's deli meat. I had same problem with it. Even vomitted. Yet I can eat rotisserie chicken just fine. Maybe because it's less processed? I'm

Avoiding deli meat for now. It was when I was 6 weeks postop that I had problems. For time reference.

You may be right. I had vomited too. I have no desire to repeat that experience again anytime soon.

It could be the type of deli meat along with the liquid content. I can eat chicken salad and rotisserie chicken, but grilled chicken - no way. I can eat scrambled eggs, but add meat and it's not a good thing. Just keep experimenting with different things. Unfortunately I think stuck foods are unavoidable until you figure this thing out. I read a post from someone who had surgery 2 years ago who just got sick on waffles so I guess the game doesn't ever stop.

At one of our support group meetings, it was mentioned that meat tenderizer will help with this problem. Drinking 2 teaspoons of meat tenderizer with 3 ounces of warm Water should help. It works fairly fast. You can search the internet about this fix. Papaya enzymes may also help.

My team also mentioned this. I found that being upright and walking helped the feeling pass more quickly. Sitting still seemed to make the stuck feeling last longer. Even so sometimes I end up throwing it up. I am one year out from my surgery and still can't eat poultry in any form except for ground turkey or chicken. Every attempt ended in misery.

Your best bet is to avoid it for a week or two before trying it again. Make sure it is chopped up small and moistened, take VERY small bites, chew, chew, chew, and wait for a bit between bites. If it still happens you may be someone who can't eat it, at least for now. Try cooked ground turkey/chicken. You may tolerate it better. :-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
