Is anyone else telling yourself....."I will never get to eat/drink this again, so I'd better do it now!" before your surgery? I only have 19 days to go and I'm really doing bad with the chocolate, etc. :hungry: I do have to do an 8 day Protein Shake only diet before surgery....is that going to be enough to keep me on the right track after surgery??? Am I totally screwing up, or is this normal? thanks everyone!:help:

The only thing that I thought about was giving up carbonated drinks. Soda was no problem but champagne and gin and tonics gave me pause. I did indulge in both pre op. only had to go on liquid/alcohol free diet for 1 day pre op. 2 weeks post op.

I know what you mean. I havent even been scheduled yet and have been going crazy with eating everything I can think of. Tonight I plan on going to a Chinese Buffet, which is my favorite. The problem is, since I dont have a date yet and have been told that it probably wont be until June, if I keep this up im going to gain alot more weight. Im looking forward to doing my preop diet so that I can stop this maddness:hungry:

I tried to get any and everything that I could possibly want prior to starting my two week Protein shake diet. I know exactly what you are going through. Since I decided to get the LapBand (late January), I think I have been trying to get the best of food!!

I don't want to think that I can never eat those foods again, I just won't be able to finish the whole thing anymore.

My big confession is that I would go to KFC and get extra crispy chicken. Noooo, that's not the confession. The confession is that I would eat the crispy stuff and give the meat to my dogs. :)

IOW, we get your problem. LOL

You will likely be able to eat 97% of the same foods after banding as before banding. You won't believe that and you WILL pig out before surgery.

Just be sure not to pig out the NIGHT before surgery. People have a tendency to pooh diarrhea DURING surgery when they eat too much the night before. And also remember, what you gain today you'll have to lose tomorrow.

This is totally normal. Kind of like the last supper syndrome. Just relax, take a deep breath and focus. You will be okay. Julie

I wanted to get banded two years ago, when my insurance would've paid for everything, but I wasn't ready to give up my addiction. I was actually terrified to lose my old pal, food!

I've since gained 50 pounds and have gotten to a point where I'm an emotional and social cripple.

I was a huge binge and purger. I would prefer sitting home to a big Chinese meal or pizza to socializing or dating and I've decided that if I never have Chinese food, a bagel or pizza again, well, that's ok.

I would rather be happy and in the world. It's a tradeoff. I think once you make peace with whatever you decide, you'll be happy.

You guys, I am doing the SAME thing! I am eating everything in sight and I mean EVERYTHING!! I have gained 5 lbs and my surgery isn't even approved!! Does anyone have a suggestion on a diet I could start? Something to get me ready and on the post op road. My surgeon doesn't even require a pre op diet. What has everyone else done? By the way, you guys are great!!

Peace Out!!

Tanderson, the thing you should do is eat Protein, lots of protein. You need to get in 60 grams a day when you are banded. I would also try and drink 1 Protein Shake a day. A lot of bandsters use protein supplements to get their protein in. In the liquid phase they will be your friend. Eat your protein first, then your vegie, then a carb. Naturally you will eat a lot, but it will give you a feel for the diet. I can only eat 1/2 cup at a time, just an FYI. Julie

For the most part, it's normal. I've found I can eat most of what I used to, just smaller portions.

You will at some time have to deal with your chocolate issues. The band will not help you with that.

Good Luck!

I am scheduled for the 26th, tommorrow I start on a 6 day Liquid Protein diet. So I have been picking my favorite foods and eating them. Like the sweet stuff, those I dont ever want to have again, even though I love them, I have decided to love myself more. Today I am eating anything that sounds good, because tommorrow my life will be about Eating to Live, not Living to Eat. I am soooooooo excited and also a little scared. But I am ready, good luck . This is my first post. I am scheduled to have surgery on 05/10. I have been having the same issues, with wanting to go to places that I don't think i would enjoy after the surgery. My doctor and his team puts everyone on a 30 day practice diet and excersise plan prior to the pre-op appt. This has helped me focus on how to eat when after i am banded. I have had my slips ups like the chinese buffet maybe twice, but everything i eat and drink and excerise must be logged and if the team doesn't approve of my efforts well then the surgery gets postponed. Now i am waiting for May 1 when i start the pre-op liquid diet and am a little nervous about that, but my thoughts are of having a successful surgery so i guess i have no choice. I have some supportive friends and co-workers who are going to do the liquid diet with me.:):(

The clear liquid diet was terrible. I had to do that three days prior to surgery and that was so depressing. I was dreaming about bananas.

I'm six days post op now and the full liquid diet, while not completelely satisfactory) is soooo much better!

I can fully understand what you are experiencing. I statred my 2 week pre-op liquid diet today. I am to be banded May 2nd. Doc. requires you to be on a 2 week, 5 Protein Shake a day plan. I also have to go weigh in each week. That is what is going to keep me honest I think. Today is just the first day, it has been real hard. I have had to replan alot of the normal things that I do. I went for a walk today while everyone else was eating lunch in the break room. Then when I was coming back from my nice walk, felling all good about myself. I get on the elevator in the parking garage, goes up to the ground floor and stops...who get on but a Dang pizza Delivery Man, with a hot steaming, wonderful smelling pizza. I got off at my floor, mouth watering. Sit at my desk and drink a shake. Repeating to myself, I can do this, I can do this........

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
