Now that you've had surgery...what's your biggest obstacle?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery March 17, so I'm 2 months out. I would have to say my biggest obstacle is to try and not graze. If I see something on the counter I might have a taste, or more. I've been working on it, and have been doing better.

What about you? What's been your biggest obstacle so far?

My biggest obstacle is feeling bad about eating something that isnt good for me. It makes me feel like i let myself down to indulge in these bad foods.

My biggest problem lately has been grazing or tasting too. My surgery was Feb. 6th. I am down 55 pounds so far. Hasn't helped my knees though????. But I seem to have a great desire for carbs. Guess I should improve my liquid intake and double check my Protein count.

Adubs, It does get better. Just hang in there. The first two weeks are the hardest. Good luck!

I'm 30 days out today. Social settings are my big obstacle at the moment. I had to decline and end of the year meeting because it was being held at a local buffet. Memorial Day is also going to be challenge.

My biggest obstacle is dealing with clothing. I have very few things that fit and I cannot afford to buy clothes all the time. Sometimes it's really depressing to have 3 shirts to choose from. I am grateful, but I wish I had budgeted for clothing.

I'm 13 months post op funny never thought I would be able to say that my biggest obstacle for me after 132 lbs down is loose skin insurance I had wants there to be skin infection issues but I don't have any keep clean dry and intact (you nurse's know what this means) going to new insurance June 1st hope they pay will see.

I will second the loose skin. My arms are especially bad. I have lost nearly 200 pounds, and at 49, I guess you can't expect it to all shrink back to normal. Not sure what I will do about it. It will be another year before I can even think about plastic surgery.

My biggest obstacle so far is that I don't drink enough. I've been so concerned with getting the eating right and making sure I have all my Protein that I forget that I have to drink a certain amount per day as well.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
