BCBS NJ here and was approved in 4 days. Was 5' 4" and 229 lbs. No 6-week pre-op diet or supervised visits, no mandates from insurance as far as I know.

Was approved Dec. 9th and sleeved Dec. 19th.

Hey Sleeve30!

Good news! They put me in the 5/20 class at Dr Abkin's too! Make sure you say hi to me when you see me "in the flesh"! I finished all my tests yesterday and I'm ready to be submitted to insurance! Did you get your answer yet??

So I got a call from BCBS today and apparently my doctors office is a center is excellence which is what the insurance company had said they needed to be but now the insurance company says they made a mistake and the center bust be a " blue choice" center, which my doctor is not.

So I have jumped thru all these hoops for nothing!

Now I have to find a blue choice center ASAP if I want to still get my surgery.

I'm so depressed. I feel like this was all for nothing & now I have no help in sight....

So it will happen the same to me as I have BCBS too... Well is there problem if they didn't update the info? Do you have a copy of your policy?

The doctors office says the ins co gave them the wrong info to start with. I have BCBS PPO. The doctors office says this is a stipulation my employer put on the health care plan we have.

I'm so screwed!!

I left 2 messages with the insurance company so I have to wait to hear from them. I guess I won't need to go to that class tomorrow!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
