Oh for good grief. Sorry about the two posts on this - my tablet is not being cooperative. Anyhoo, I've been extremely nauseous and light-headed. I spoke with my doctor yesterday and he recommended that I go back to full liquids for 3-5 days as well as start taking Maalox. I have really bad heartburn, and everything is making me feel like I'm going to vomit. Tuesday night I had dry heaves and this morning I passed out. Should I be concerned about a bigger issue? I had a rough start post op, as I had a hiatal hernia repair simultaneously. However, priir to Tuesday I had been feeling pretty good; getting all my Protein and fluids, walking every day. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Sounds pretty normal for someone who's not eating or drinkng much to feel light headed and sick. Pump fluids as much as you can, if nothing else. If your doc won't prescribe it, you can always do over the counter omeprazole. Seems a lot of sleeve patients are on that for a while for reflux or heartburn. I'm 2 months and still on mine.

Agreed there. However, you need to be careful as PPI's can cause their own problems. Lord knows I've certainly found that out. LOL.

What are PPIs?

I am so sorry. PPI's are Proton Pump Inhibitors. They're drugs that reduce stomach acid. They can interfere with B12, so that's why for bariatric patients, you need to be VERY careful of them.

VERY careful. For a short period of time, fine, but any length of time, B12 is not a Vitamin deficiency you want. You want a GI who knows about these things or willing to learn so that you're careful of them.

I'd be very leery of any one who uses them over the counter constantly too. I don't find that simple things like this are noted to bariatric patients.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
