FIRST TIME EVER TO GET STUCK! OUCH!

Recommended Posts

OK, note to self: DO NOT EAT FRENCH bread WITH THICK CRUST!

Holy bat man! That was so painful! I hat to jump up and down to get it to pass! Yikes!

Now I know what "getting stuck" feels like. I guess I have been eating "slider food" this whole time. Fish, cottage cheese, yogurt, scallops, turkey and chicken go down just fine.

Oh yeah, one of my first stuck episodes was French bread to dip in some VOO with spices and 3 bites in the slime came bubbling up.

I haven't slimed yet. What is that exactly?

I have found myself getting stuck quite frequently lately. Usually it's because I eat too fast and don't chew like I should. I can eat anything if I go slow enough. But my stuck episodes are pretty miserable. I'm pretty sure I look like I'm in labor. Sometimes they stop me from eating for 10 or 15 minutes. I guess that's one way to eat less.

Slime is flem or saliva that your body creates in your esophagus to allow stuck food to slide through and can come up like "slime" as in Ghostbusters. Almost always happens with a stuck episode.

It didn't happen to me. It was SOOOO painful. I was screaming! I jumped up and down and took a sip of Water, and it went down. I am assuming my usual diet is slider foods? Not good. I have had 4 fills already.

Sipping Water could make it worse. Your stoma is blocked so anything you swallow afterwards will back up and/or cause your esophagus to dilate to accommodate more volume. I've never had a stuck episode that caused me to scream or yell. They're mostly just very uncomfortable.

I so know that Water or anything you drink would NOT undo a block on me...it is very painful and drinking something made it even worse-just like TMF said

...be careful!!!

I agree. No fluids for me...I make my own:(.

As for hollering none of that either, just look of total despair and lots of spitting and wishing I could turn back the clock.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
