Learning to reach out for support

Recommended Posts

My name is Michelle and I had my gastric sleeve done on April 21, 2014. It has been hard for me to talk about my experience but I want help others thru this too. I would like to have support from others who have been there. Also, I really want to help somebody else. My starting weight was 411. I lost 25 before my surgery and lost 20 since my surgery. I'm so thankful to God for this 'tool'

Hi Michelle! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! on your results so far! That's wonderful! I, too, have chosen to keep my surgery "quiet" and only a small group of family and co-workers know about it. My surgery is a week from Friday. I'm very excited to start this new chapter of my life!

How are you doing since your surgery? You mentioned your weight loss numbers, but how are you doing physically and emotionally? Any problems or comments you wish to share? We'd sure love to hear from you! Thanks!

I'm doing great since my surgery! I started my soft food today. I was getting tired of the liquids. Physically I have been a little tired. I have to take a nap daily. I haven't had any problems with nausea (except the first 3 days after surgery). I haven't thrown up at all. I'm having a hard time getting my liquids in everyday. I get about 32 ounces in a day but I'm suppose to have 64.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
