I am not sure if the weight I lost so far is common (23 post op, 8 preop)

Recommended Posts

Im new to the site but am glad to have joined in with so many others who have had or will have the same experience :) I had my surgery on April 2, 2014 and have lost 23 lbs post op, I don't know if this is common but feel like I should have lost more by now since I hardly eat. I do try and get as much Protein as I can in but its really hard for me since I get full so fast. Yesterday was my 1 month surgiversary! I was happy but with that I thought I would get more energy, I feel so tired on most days, I was brushing my hair and had to take a seat every few minutes because I felt so weak, I take my Vitamins, B12 and Calcium daily and get as much Fluid as I can get I (the most I can get in is 32 ounces a day). Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate any comments on this.

thanks

My suggestion is not to worry about what is "common". Ultimately, what good does that do you?

I totally get that, my heart tells me not to pay attention to the "common" but my mind continues to ask the question. I know all of us are different and therefore lose weight differently as well but I am curious to hear what others think about the subject, Im curious to hear where others are 1 month post op?? not that it would make a difference on my individual weight loss but the information you gain can assist help to assist me in my journey.

I am two months out and down 56 pounds. Having said this, 32 pounds were lost before surgery and I have only lost 24 since surgery. I have found that most of the people who have lost a lot of weight, include the amount of their pre-op weight loss in the overall total. I think you are doing great.

I'm only 10 days post-op but if I am down 23 by week 4, I will be ecstatic. I wouldn't even care if everyone else lost 50 lbs in that time period because I know I wouldn't have been down 23 w/o the sleeve.

Good luck!

I had surgery march 26th and since that day I've lost 35 lbs. I think your doing great. I had a 2 week period where I hit a wall then on day 15 I weighed and had lost 5 lbs. Funny how that works. From now on I'm only weighing once per month. Good luck and best wishes.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
