Had my initial consult with my doctor today! I'm excited. On my way over though I was thinking this could be the best decision I've made or the worse. I truly believe it will be the best!! I'm so ready for a change!!!

I am sooo bummed out! Finally got an appointment with the surgeon and I was getting excited but when I got home today had a message that they have to reschedule. I was so hoping to get my surgery date. I know all the hoops they put us through are worth it and I'm trying not to get discouraged but Yeesh!

I am still waiting on a surgery date ???? we had a bit of a set back (hiatal hernia). Doctor wants me to really think about whether the sleeve is the best choice for me. He feels that, because many people experience and increase in gerd (heartburn), that I should reconsider having gastric bypass instead. I am feeling very discouraged. Any advice?

Was sleeved on June 24. Never had heartburn or acid and I do now. Doc says it usually lasts small amount of time maybe 30 days. I take omeprazole once a day and it's tolerable

Doc said if I had regular heartburn he would do a bypass. But i never had it ore surgery

Thanks Jersrose43! This news makes me feel better. I will wait to see what the doc says and then decide. I was told this doctor prefers the bypass surgery and really pushes it but I've heard so many success stories with the sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
