I have secured funding, and will be attending my first appt with the surgeon May 8th. I have lots of support from my wife and family, and am looking for any local support group that I might be part of as I engage this process.

I"m not from your area, but if you go to the Community section of this forum (3rd tab from the left on the top menu bar), scroll all the way down to a section called something like Bariatric Local Chapters (new).

This is a section where people are trying to start up support groups in their local areas. Play around in there under city & state, and ask some questions. You might something available at the hospital where you're going to have the surgery or another might be popping up. It's a work in progress that the site is working on. Regardless, you'll find people are more than willing to help & give you advice : )
